I guess cash isn't enough? I am stumped. It seems like only a few guys care about writing articles. Which sucks because I feel like writing articles keeps leagues interesting...(and shows the commish that the league is still interesting for its GMs..)

lol
I don't know honestly. I feel like a change of boards would do something. Maybe a new skin. When Brian changed up things at Infinity, it sparked activity. Sometimes people need to move the couch around the living room

Sometimes people need to move the couch around the living roomhaha, great analogy. I'd say change the boards up as well, or clean them up a little at least. Enlarge the font for topic descriptions, and subsidize the forums (i.e. melding "sign/cut" with "position change" etc.) imho, the boards look like they are in the beta stage of development.

Agreed with all that.
For pre-season, I'll try and write one of my famous long ass articles.

I don't think there is anything to do about encouraging people to write articles. Some people either do or don't, Ive seen people never write articles ever. Some people just don't want to spend the time or lack the creativity to come up with something.

I don't think it would hurt to clean the board up. Its worth a try at least. There is no place to complain if you don't try. You know what the definition of insanity is?

My thought was changing up the look, more precisely. If people get on and notice things look different, they naturally spend more time getting acclimated which would spur activity.

I was talking about Article-writing really, here. not overall activity.
in my time as commish I just realized this league is full of too many "I'll check the boards when I can" type of GMs. I get it. Some people are busier than others.

Some people are busier than others. But what's funny is most of those guys are top posters at Infinity. If you're looking for activity, it wouldn't hurt. Article Writing will come once activity is raised.

Travo informed me via PM that when he was choosing between v4 and Infinity, he went with Infinity because it was a lot "cleaner."
Maybe take out a lot of the unneeded explanations for the topics. For instance over at Infinity the "Discussion" topic doesn't say anything but "Discussion." I think we all know what to discuss there and do not need to be told what it's for.
You would be surprised at how much cleaner things will look if you simply did that.

I work pretty hard for this league and knowing that just makes me not want to continue.... I didn't say it to make you mad or make you not want to continue, just pointing out that you could get a lot more out of some guys if certain things were done. I"m not going to sit here and give you the recipe for what that is, because I do not know. However, what I am saying is that it's probably not the file, not the league, but the boards. I mean, in all honesty, the boards are nearly 3/4 of what makes the league.

my theory is that Brian has his core GMs....that know him so they're loyal.
so they fizzed off when Dave and I took over SSBLv3...we kept the name, the structure, everything with Brian's stamp of approval...a handful of guys stuck around and are still here, and I thank you guys. But there are guys who are too loyal to Brian. I'd be one of them (if I could access stupid jcink boards at work).
So yeah, then Brian starts his own league(s) and all his guys are back there.....that may or may not be in in this league, which I have tried my hardest to not let die until now.

Luca I tried your "remove the sub-board descriptions" idea....

the REASON i set up Proboards was that I loved the simplistic style. No offense if you guys prefer jcink or invisionfree type boards over Proboards, but to each his own. The reason it looks so "beta version" is because it uses simple html codes and colors. Nothing fancy, just plain boards.

I work pretty hard for this league and knowing that just makes me not want to continue.... Well, ask yourself this. Do you honestly feel like activity will get better here in the coming years, or just drop off even more? If you feel it is the latter, then don't you think it would make more sense to re-start, as opposed to trudging on and working your ass off for a bunch of flaky GM's? I'm 50-50. Either way, I'm here for the long haul, so it doesn't matter to me what you do. However, I think even if you absolutely have no intentions of doing a restart, you should still make a poll on the subject, and see how the majority feels about it. I'm not intending to piss you off, ray, cos I love this league and would like to see it keep going. I think you do a fine job as commish, but there are times when you have to take a look at your product and recognize if it is in demand any longer.

I, for one, enjoy Proboards extensively. Especially the fact that you can track your sent PM's and keep more than 50 fricken messages at a time. I like the file and the league right now, but I'm not opposed to a restart if you think it's time Ray. Whatever v4 wants to do I'm on board.

Its not like Infinity has loads more articles either especially from people that are in this league also.

Once the draft starts getting sick again and we get in old time legends and mix shit up, the interest will be back again big time. Remember it's summer time, a lot of people are busy right now. No one wants to sit in on a 90 degree sunny day and right a damn FBB article for cash, lol. The trades, trade block, depth chart posts, are all still there, and that's what matters most. Please don't end this league to do a re-start. Just keep it flowing.

Definately dont think we need a restart. Just had a very nice draft class with lots of new talent coming in, thought it has been a busy offseason too because of it. Dunno where all this activity talk is coming from, thought its been very good lately.

Maybe I should just cut dead weight

Post by Akomplice on Jun 24, 2011 18:40:30 GMT -5
The only problem with cutting dead weight is that FBB is a dying breed IMO, its rare to find new guys to come in. If you have a bunch of guys that are waiting to come in, that's great. However I can't remember the last time Ive seen a new wave of guys.
Articles throughout the entire history of SSBL4 has what 10-12 people with 3-5 of them being the same people no?
