Compton Dominguez HS (CA)
Great defensive player with shot-blocking ability, explosiveness, long arms, and excellent timing. Super athletic runs the floor like a gazelle and can hop out the gym with the best of them. Has some descent passing ability rarely gets trapped into a double team Needs to put on some weight...very thin and some question whether or not he is suited to play Center or Power Forward, and maybe even considered a slow SF. Lacks posts moves on offense. Mainly an ally-oop and garbage bucket kind of big man. Has gotten a lot of rebounds in HS thanks to weak competition, but needs to box out better in the Pros to stand a chance against bigger, stronger centers. Some question his maturity but being 19 yrs old he has good upside and scouts are high on his development.
Eddy Curry 6'11 290 HS 19 B+ D F+ C+ C B
Thornwood HS (IL)
Huge at almost 300 lbs, he fills the lane and knows how to use his body. An agile player his size. Physical inside player. Draws contact and gets to the free throw line, isn't a terrible FT shooter but not great. Good hands--catches most passes thrown into post after getting it he can power the ball to the basket or use his variety of post moves. Good leaper and can dunk with authority. The obvious flaw to his game is his weight. Has not always been in the best of shape one has to wonder if he has the drive to keep himself in shape. Looks lost when he is 14 feet from the basket needs to develop some moves facing the basket. Has had some games where he has looked sluggish and uninterested in the action. Some question his desire to even play basketball at all. Doesn't look to grab rebounds at all unless they fall his direction. With Curry you are getting a scoring tank, but he seriously worked on his defense and boards he could be a dominant force.
Samuel Dalembert 6'11 250 20 C D+ C- B+ B- B
Seton Hall Soph.
Excellent shot-blocker who can impact a game without even scoring . Runs the floor well can beat most players down the court including guards. Has a nice touch around the basket can convert on most put-backs and flip-ins. Reach and elevation make him descent rebounder. Plays within his limits doesn't really try to do things that he can't do. Needs to learn how to be better disciplined on defense often he was out of position to rebound. Offensively, not a threat and doesn't really have any range other than when he gets the ball a few feet from the basket. Foul-prone, which could be a problem for him Still learning the game fundamentally. Upper body strength needs to be enhanced could stand to add 15-20 more pounds. Poor free-throw shooter. While he has good touch around the basket his post footwork isn't great. Poor passer and doesn't protect the ball very well. But is young, and like his teammate Eddie Griffin, is a big man whom scouts are high on.
Joel Przybilla C 7'1 242 22 C D F+ B+ B- B
Minnesota Jr.
An exceptional shot blocker and savvy rebounder. Przybilla is still raw after just two college seasons, but he's an instinctive shot-blocker who showed flashes of an offensive game. His final game at Minnesota provided a glimpse of his potential as he scored 33 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, passed for 3 assists and blocked 3 shots in an upset of then 10th-ranked Indiana. However, he was suspended over academic problems by coach Dan Monson. He averaged 14 points, 8.4 boards and nearly four blocked shots per game as a sophomore.
Jason Collins 7'0 260 23 C D+ D+ B+ C+ C
Stanford Sr.
Unlike his brother Jarron 's finesse game Jason has a power type game. Has a strong physical presence in the lane with his back to the basket. Knows how to use his size to box out opposing player for the easy rebounds or put-backs . Soft hands. Draws frequent contact when he turns into his defender for the power basket ... Is the better defender of the Collins twins. Post defense is his greatest attribute...the team drafting Jason is not drafting a scoring beast like Curry, but a more level-headed, intelligent post defender who has played 4 seasons at Stanford. A surprisingly good FT shooter for a Center. However, an injury-riddled career makes one wonder was it just bad luck or is he injury prone. Body could stand to be a little more firm. Not very athletic. Not a shot-blocker but still a good defender. Upside is questionable, but he is definitely a serviceable big man already.
DeSagana Diop 7'0 300 19 C D- D B B- A
Oak Hill Academy HS (VA) HS
Huge body who takes up a good amount of space Has a good feel around the basket is starting to learn how to use the glass on his hook shots and most importantly using both hands to score. Excellent shot-blocker rarely bites on fakes and has long arms. Good rebounder. Has improved remarkable considering that he has only really played organized basketball for the past 2 years. Really needs to lose some weight. Offensively raw at this point has basically gotten away with being bigger than the competition. Has a tendency that most young centers have and that is putting the ball on the floor for either a put-back or lay-up which allows smaller players to interfere or worst yet steal the ball. Fundamentals are far from polished. Doesn't possess the best stamina. Is foul-prone. Not a good FT shooter.
Brendan Haywood 7'0 268 22 C+ D D+ B B B
North Carolina Sr.
Has really learned how to take over a game defensively with his shot blocking ability. Converts most of his shots within 10 feet of the basket thanks to his soft touch. Has jumping ability for a player of his size this allows him to be a good finisher. Has developed low post moves that he has become quite comfortable with. Good work ethic and has definitely benefited from staying in school. Haywood's biggest problem is his lack of intensity and energy during some games he almost looks like he was lost. Needs to make himself a wider target in the post so that it's easier for teammates to get him the ball. While his rebounding skills are good he could still use a tad bit more help on rebounding techniques such as blocking out and anticipation. Has a still evolving offensive game. Although he gets to the free throw line he doesn't take advantage of it because of his poor free throw shooting.
Steven Hunter 7'0 220 20 C+ D D+ B B- B
DePaul Soph.
Agile and athletic, a very good shot-blocker with excellent timing and quick leaping ability to go with his long arms. Posses good hands and excellent ball handling skills for a big man. Understands his limits offensively and doesn't take bad shots. Is starting to add some post moves to his arsenal, such as a hook shot and an up and under move. Not a good face-up player. Turnovers are a problem. Needs to be more confident in his own game. Very skinny and needs to add weight. Poor FT shooter. I would rank Sammy Dalembert of Seton Hall slightly higher than Hunter, only because of the way Dally can impact the game.
Alvin Jones 6'11 265 23 C+ D D+ B B- C
Georgia Tech Sr.
Another Good shot blocker, but also is able to use his body to draw contact in the post. Good rebounder. Pretty athletic. Biggest weakness is his inconsistency and work ethic. Picks up dumb fouls. Not a good free throw shooter. Post footwork needs work. Some wonder if his game has already peaked, although he has improved each year he played at GT.
Lazaros Papadopoulos C 6'11" 240 21 B- D+ D C+ B- C
Big strong player who unlike most European players likes physical contact in the lane. Plays well with back to the basket has a couple of solid offensive moves such as a hook shot and a short 8-foot jumper. Decent rebounder who has long arms and because of body strength is good at sealing off his man to get in position for rebounds. Solid free throw shooter but not great. Not very athletic but more athletic than some of the other European prospects. Not a shot blocker. Ineffective if he doesn’t catch the ball in the low block. Picks up stupid fouls. Will struggle on defense due to lack of lateral quickness.
Loren Woods 7'1 245 23 C C- C- B C+ D
Arizona Sr.
Agile for a 7-footer who runs the court well. Up there with the shot-blockers of the draft and doesn't need to score to impact a game. Long arms. Draws fouls and actually hits a good % of FTs. Needs to get stronger. Not a back to the basket type of player. Had a back injury last year which caused a compression to the disc he then contacted valley fever which may have made the bone weaker. This hurts his stock pretty badly.
Mehmet Okur 6'11 249 22 C+ C+ D+ B- C+ B
Turkey
The big man from Turkey worked out a buyout from Efes Pilsen S.K in Turkey to come over to the SSBL this year. This guy can mix it up downlow but is more in love with his perimeter game, which extends out to the 3pt arch. A solid defender too, but he is somewhat slow and not an agressive rebounder. Very well could be overlooked and may be a steal late in the 1st round if teams pass him up for the younger American players
Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje 7'0 257 23 C F+ D+ B C C
Georgetown Sr.
Has excellent post skills and the size to go along with them. He runs well for such a load, he's a strong rebounder, and he can block shots. But his offensive skills aren't as advanced as his defensive skills.
C Eric Chenowith 7'1 271 22 C C D B- C+ C
Kansas Sr.
Chenowith had an inconsistent college career, but he's huge and can shoot. His range is exceptional for a big man. He grabbed a bunch of boards and blocked a few shots in college, but he's not very athletic and aggressive and looks to be a 2nd round pick at best.
