Pau Gasol PF 7'0 227 21 B- C C- B C+ A
Spain
A finesse big man in every sense of the word. Some list him as a SF but he's more of a PF who needs to bulk up. Runs the floor well...Has a nice perimeter shot but not as silky smooth as, say, Dirk. Can dribble past most defenders. Smart player is a quick learner and can adjust his game according to how the defense plays him. Boxes out pretty well but doesn't get a ton of rebounds. As a 7-footer, he is not very good with his back to the basket. Needs to bulk up. A decent defender but not a great defender. Shot selection isn't very good. Needs to play passed the 'soft' label. However, he is a very intelligent and smart player and should be a top lotto pick.
Eddie Griffin PF 6'10 222 19 C+ C+ D+ B+ B A
Seton Hall Fr.
Smooth agile player who can do a bit of everything. Can run the break and finish gracefully. Plays relaxed and the lets game come to him. A very good shot-blocker for a freshman lead the nation with 4.4 a game..has really long arms making him a good defender. Also a versatile scorer who is able to post up or float out for the mid range jumper, although this part of his game is still far from being complete. Good rebounding instincts. Has started to develop a 3-point shot to go along with his evolving mid-range game. However he needs to add like 20-25 pounds of muscle to his lean frame. Needs to play with more energy and passion as he is sometimes lethargic...chemistry is a concern as he has been known to get into fights with teammates.
Zach Randolph PF 6'9 270 20 B+ C D+ C B+ A
Michigan State Fr.
Very strong for a player his age ..often just powered to the basket during his brief college career. Uses his body well often shields the opposing defender making it hard to block his shot. Has great hands and good post footwork able to hold position on the blocks and back down his defender. Has a soft shooting touch around the basket. Also likes stepping out and hitting a 15-20 ft jumper. Active on the boards and creates second-chance opportunities for teammates thanks to his offensive rebounding. His weakness would be his defense. Needs to shed some more baby fat and has to get in better shape. At times Randolph can force plays when double-teamed often these resulted in turnovers. Also needs to mature and stop complaining to referees. His scoring and rebounding will make him a top pick but his defense will scare off a few teams.
Kwame Brown PF 6'11 243 19 C+ D+ D+ C+ B- A
Glynn Academy HS (GA)
Boom or bust written all over this one. He's a versatile player and has the ability to shoot the ball inside and out. Very athletic runs the floor. A good rebounder due in part to his quick leaping ability and long wingspan. Good passer and recognizes double teams well and makes quick adjustments. Good shot blocker but mainly blocked kids much smaller than him in HS. Can hit the occasional 17-foot jumper and has even shown the ability to shot off the dribble. But he's still raw. Not very comfortable playing with his back to the basket has a tendency to rush himself. Needs to get stronger. Falls in love with his jumper sometimes he settles for playing outside instead of mixing it up inside. Low post offense is still developing. Needs to learn how to be more disciplined on defense.
Calvin Bowman PF 6'11" 211 24 C+ D D+ C+ B C
West Virginia Sr.
His greatest strength is his rebounding ability...not a threat offensively as he gets most of his points as garbage buckets. Finishes well around the basket though. Runs the floor well for a big man. Has some post moves but is really a hustle player primarily. He would really benefit from bulking up...tall and lanky. Although he's a good rebounder, he's not a great leaper. He is a hard worker so the work ethic is there. He is an average shot blocker at best. Inconsistent...one night he'll have a monster game, the next he'll won't make any noise. He sat at one year due to NCAA eligibility rules, that is why he is "old", which also hurts his stock.
Michael Bradley PF 6'10" 245 22 C+ C D+ C+ B- B
Junior Villanova
Has good post moves and excellent footwork that make him a very hard player to play against when he is in the lane. Has a nice little hook shot with either hand when 8 feet and in from the basket. Can score facing the basket or with his back to it. Gets very good position under the glass for rebounds. Knows his limits offensively and doesn't take stupid shots. A pretty consistent guy night in and night out. Runs the floor well often beat opposing players down the court. Has started to develop a more consistent outside game including 3-point range to compliment his inside game...However, not very athletic. Lacks some upper body strength. Get's the free throw line but isn't a great FT shooter. Has blocked some shots his senior year but doesn't look to be a Marcus Camby of any sort.
Ousmane Cisse PF 6-9 255 19 C+ D C- B- C+ B
Montgomery HS (AL)
Aggressive player just attacks the basket. Super athletic...runs the floor and finishes most plays with thunderous dunks A hustle player. Quick leaper...blocks a bunch of shots considering his height, he dominated high school defensively although I doubt he will be as dominating in the Pros. Good rebounder too. Ball handling could really stand to be improved on as he will be forced to play further from the basket. Needs to extend his range as of right now he looks rather uncomfortable taking a shot from 15 feet out. Offensive his game as a whole is still pretty undeveloped at this time. Still learning the fundamentals of the game has gotten this far thanks to his athleticism. Another boom or bust type player. Very young and very raw, but scouts are interested in Cisse if he can pan out.
Jarron Collins PF 6-10 248 23 C+ D D+ B- C+ C
Senior Stanford
A Finesse big man who is the better scorer of the Collins twins. Both are similarly not scoring threats at all, but of the two, Jarron is the better inside scorer while Jason is the anchor on defense. Jarron doesn't get much lift from his legs, making him an average rebounder at best. Poor FT shooter and not a jump shooter at all. Still, very intelligent and serviceable big man who could slip on the draft boards.
Kirk Haston PF 6'10" 230 C+ C+ D+ C B C
Indiana Jr.
Good on the low block. Has inside moves and a nice hook shot. Can spot up and hit the jumper even added an occasional 3-point shot. Not afraid to bang underneath and grabs rebounds. Soft scoring touch in the paint converts a high amount of flip-ins, short turnarounds, and put-backs. Biggest question mark for Haston is that he isn't very strong or athletic. Defensively he has much to learn. Doesn't have the lateral quickness or the upper body strength to keep up with the power forwards in the Pros. Needs to get stronger. Not known as a shot blocker at all really.
Troy Murphy PF 6-11 245 21 C+ B- D+ C+ B B
Notre Dame Jr.
A versatile scorer Murphy can shoot the ball inside and out all the way to the 3-point shot. Unlike most young players Murphy has a solid mid-range game the he can shoot from both sides of the floor. Good work ethic and a very coach-able player who has gotten better each year since arriving at Notre Dame. Rebounds very well considering his lack of jumping ability this speaks volumes of his mobility and how good he boxes out. Good passer and free throw shooter who has become very good at drawing fouls thanks to his pump fakes and hesitation moves. If he works hard on the defensive part of the game he could be a really special player. Still needs to get stronger. Athleticism is one of his biggest handicaps in that he's by no means a high riser or possessor of unbelievable quickness. Sometimes falls in love with the jumper and would really benefit from taking it to the hole more.
Vladimir Radmanovic PF 6'9" 205 C+ B- D+ B- C+ C
Yugoslavia
Athletic player who runs the floor well and with his descent leaping ability he is a good finisher in transition. Good set shooter from 3-point land although I wouldn't call him a pure shooter but I would say that he has a nice scoring touch. Solid rebounder too. Post up game is non existent due to the fact that he is not very comfortable with his back to the basket. Defense, like most European players isn't up to SSBL standards. Definitely could stand to add about 20 pounds to develop more upper body strength. Doesn't play defense with a great deal of fire or aggressiveness
Brian Scalabrine 6'9 240 23 C+ C D+ B C+ C
USC Sr.
Scalabrine has good offensive skills, with better-than-average range for a big man. He's definitely an energy player and definitely a crowd-favorite. His defense is very solid, though not known as a big man. Leave him open for three and he won't hesitate to knock it down. He also has very bright red hair.
Ken Johnson 6'11 240 23 C D+ D B+ C D
Ohio State Sr.
Johnson is a good shot blocker, and he can move. His athleticism will serve him well in the pros. Improved his offensive skills this season but can still use some polish on that end of the floor. Despite his size and shot blocking ability, he's a terrible rebounder. His upside is questionable, scouts think he's peaked, but I'm sure any team wouldn't mind another shot blocker on their squad.
Andre Hutson 6'8 241 22 C+ D D+ B- C D
Michigan State Sr.
Hutson is a rugged performer who knows how to get his points inside and is a strong defender. Undersized but a banger downlow. Limited offensively and is not a great rebounder. Is considering playing in Greece.
Robertas Javtokas 6'10" 213 21 C D+ F+ B C+ C
Lithuania
A relatively unknown prospect coming out of Lithuania, Javtokas is keeping his name in the draft despite being under contract with BC Lietuvos Rytas until 2006. If you draft this guy and he decides to stay the entire time in Europe, you could either renounce his rights after 2 years or work to have a buyout with BC Lietuvos Rytas if you so desire. But there still is the possibility of him coming over this year too. Regardless, Javtokas is a big goofy European who does not excel on offense, but is a good shot blocker and solid rebounder on defense.
Melvin Ely 6'10 260 23 C+ D+ D+ B C+ C
Fresno State Jr.
Ely is a good athlete and strong leaper who knows how to get his points. He has excellent size and uses it to its fullest as a rebounder. Some have questioned his intensity level, but there's no questioning his skill level. Good shot blocker who averaged 2.6 as a Junior. Although he is older for a Junior, he is heavily considering returning for his senior year where he has an opportunity to be the premier big for Fresno State, which could help his draft stock next year.
Paul Shirley 6'10" 235 24 C D+ D+ B- C C
Iowa State Sr.
He doesn't like contributing to Haiti. But is a big body and an average defender. Grabs some rebounds. 2nd round pick if that. Probably should play overseas. Probably not Haiti though.
Alton Ford 6'9 275 20 C+ D+ C- C+ C B
Houston Fr.
20
Ford has great size and good skills for the power forward position; he knows how to use his bulk to score and get rebounds. He came on late in the season, which might have prompted his decision to try his luck in the draft. His defensive work was inconsistent. Has stepped out to shoot the 3 occasionally, but is more of a PF than a SF. Poor FT shooter. Very raw, was average as a college player so there is much work to be done, but has a lot of room to develop.
