Eric Barkley and Jamaal Magliore , the Warriors two first round draft picks .
SAN FRANCISCO , CA - The Golden State Warriors welcomed their two new additions as a result of their two selections in the 2000 draft. Eric Barkley (6th pick) point guard from St. John's and Jamaal Magliore (9th pick) , center from Kentucky were unveiled to the public today as two new players that are expected to lead the Warriors into the future . Barkley , considered by many to be a potentially good point guard was the best of the bunch in this draft class at that position . Many thought the pick was very high on this player . Gm Mikedacroat defended the pick by saying " Many people did not think this was a good pick but if you look at the potential of Barkley and if he does develop the potential to its fullest , he will be a kind of 'sleeper' pick ." Magliore , a great inside and defensive , rebounding frontcourt player should be able to back up either the center or power forward position or even start at either spot . Antawn Jamison said , " I remember watching Magliore just decimate anyone whoever came into the paint and just feed them dinner by blocking the ball . He also will clean up the boards while there . We should have a great inside presence with him here . I'm glad he is on my team . "
Both players should get a chance to show what they can bring to the table for the Warriors . Magliore will have the chance to contribute into the starting lineup by opening up as the starting center . Barkley will and should start the season as the backup to veteran Sam Cassell . After the Free Agency period is over , the Warriors should have a better idea where these two players will fit in .
