Joel Pryzbilla C 7'1 242 21 C D F+ B+ B- B
Minnesota Sophomore
An exceptional shot blocker and savy rebounder. Przybilla is still raw after just two college seasons, but he's an instinctive shot-blocker who showed flashes of an offensive game. His final game at Minnesota provided a glimpse of his potential as he scored 33 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, passed for 3 assists and blocked 3 shots in an upset of then 10th-ranked Indiana. However, he was suspended over academic problems by coach Dan Monson. He averaged 14 points, 8.4 boards and nearly four blocked shots per game as a sophomore.
Dalibor Bagaric C 7'1 250 20 B- D+ D- B- C+ A (Europe contract)
Croatia
Very young and a big body. This past season he averaged 18.3 pts and 10.4 rebs in 31 minutes per game for KK Benston Zagreb
and was a participant in this year’s Croatian League All-Star game. In the 98-99 season, he led the Croatian league in blocked shots while playing for Cibona Zagreb. He's also a member of the Croatian national team. If his Euroleague success can translate in SSBL, expect big things for this raw center.
Jamaal Magliore C 6'11 243 22 B- D D+ B C+ B
Kentucky Senior
Has developed into arguably the best all-around center of this year's class. One of the best defending big men in college ball and has finally developed the ability to score. Has a huge 7-7 wing span. Though he has improved his scoring pretty well, this is still the weak point in his game. Needs to develop his face up game. Poor jump shot with no range. He does most of his scoring by rolling off his man in the post where he is very hard to push off the blocks because of his strength, or by getting down court fast and taking position deep in the lane. He also is not a good passer and turnovers have been a problem. Has great defensive footwork and is an excellent post defender. He runs the floor well and gets back in transition. He establishes good rebounding position and with his long arms and strength this makes him an excellent rebounder.
Chris Mihm C 7'1 262 21 C+ C- D+ B- B+ C
Texas Junior
A talented center. Can consistently hit his jump shot out to the top of the key. Seven footers who can play are hard to find. Many compare his game to LaFrentz, but Chris has the ability and skill to be a more dominant player. Can hit the 15 to 18 foot jumper. Is a good passer. His strength is his rebounding ability more than anything. Not very quick, but possesses enough skills to make up for it. He's the only player in Texas history to score 1,100 points, grab 800 boards and block 200 shots.
Iakovos Tsakalidis C 7'2 230 21 C+ D+ D+ C+ B- B
Greece INTL
Tsakalidis is one of the top European prospects in this draft. Though limited offensively to inside-the-paint moves, Tsakalidis is a strong force that rebounds well, blocks the occasional shot and can deflect many a drive to the basket. His foot speed is fine and his mobility and fluidity carry him well. A terrific low-post player at both ends, the only question about Tsakalidis is his endurance.
Jake Voskuhl C 6'11 245 23 B- C- D+ B- C+ B
UCONN Senior
A tough defender and a player that does all the intangibles that help a team win. He may be a little thin to play center in the PRos but should bulk up. Has soft hands and can hit a short face up or turnaround jumper. He has good agility and lateral speed which allows him to take the ball to the basket from even high in the lane with a hard dribble. More importantly on offense he does all the intangibles that help his teammates score, like setting screens and occupying opposing centers and power forwards. Decent shot blocker. Solid rebounder around the basket. Tough and physical defender inside. Unfortunately he gets into foul trouble seriously limiting his minutes.
Primoz Brezec C 7'2 245 21 B- D+ D C B C
Slovenia
A member of the Slovenian national team and a two-time All-star, Brezec is a tall, lanky European prospect with good scoring and rebounding ability. Not a great defender, but a better one than his ratings show. Efficient around the rim and shot 62% from the field last year. Not known as a shotblocker at all. Shooting is a draw back. But still a young center.
Jason Collier C 7'1 245 23 C C F+ B- B- C
Georgia Tech Senior
Collier is the best shooter among all big men in this draft. He has good hands, but his post moves, at this point in his career, are less than spectacular. When he posts, he tends to shoot a lot of fadeaways. He is a streaky offensive player. Defensively, Collier is average, not great. Until his senior year, Collier was never known as even an average rebounder for someone his height. In his final year, he was much more aggressive on the boards -- largely by improving his positioning and by learning how not to get rooted out so easily. He is very slow though. He's not Todd MacCulloch slow, but he doesn't have many higher gears. Still not an aggressive player, and is often outworked. He doesn't finish very well, and he's not at all intimidating around the basket.
Mamadou N'diaye C 7'1 240 25 C D+ D+ B- C+ B
Auburn Senior
More of a project than a finished product, N'diaye has such great athleticism for a seven footer that makes him one of the top prospects in this class. He looks to be a mid 1st round pick but could slip if more polished underclassmen centers enter the draft. This senior at Auburn is not yet a good scorer he still averages 8.9 point per game on 53% shooting, but a decent rebounder. He is still learning the game but runs the floor extremely well for a big an. Also an extremely good shot blocker. He has also improved his athleticism and strength, now at 245 ponds he is big enough to play center in SSBL. He is a real force in the paint and anchors Auburn's defense. He is not a good one-on-one defender as he is still learning the moves and he has a habit of committing bad fouls. N'diaye made big strides during his four years at Auburn, showing up as a skinny, unskilled freshman and leaving a much stronger and more skilled draft pick.
Ernest Brown C 6'11 250 21 C+ D D+ B C C
Indian Hills C.C. Sophomore
Brown was headed for Iowa State before changing his mind and declaring for the draft, which has a decent but not great crop of centers. Brown didn't overpower anyone at Indian Hills, averaging 12.8 points and 7.0 rebounds. His blocked-shot total was more impressive: 4.0. Brown, a native of the Bronx, was well traveled in his short collegiate career. He first attended Mesa (Ariz.) Community College, where he averaged 22 points and 15 boards as a freshman. He later left for Indian Hills. Brown was a McDonald's All-American in high school.
Soumaila Samake C 7'2 230 22 C+ D D B B- C
Cincinnati (IBL)
Though a raw talent -- this native of West Africa didn't play college basketball -- there is obviously much in Samake's game to excite the SSBL world. He led the IBL in blocked shots and shot 56 percent from the field and a respectable 69 percent from the free-throw line. He averaged 9.7 points and 7.6 rebounds. Samake was a tad foul prone (255 in 60 games, for a 4.25 average) and had 143 turnovers, but his upside has the scouts salivating. Look for him to go in the first round.
Jabari Smith C 6'11 255 23 C+ D D B C+ C
LSU Senior
Jabari Smith a senior at LSU has the size to play center in the NBA though he is more suited to the power forward position. He is a good scorer and a sound rebounder, also runs the floor well and can play in the open court. Has a nice face up jumper with range out to 20' and can step out and convert the occasional three point shot (hold your breath though). He has the ability to take the ball to the basket with a variety of scoring moves, both up the middle and from the baseline. He is good in both the high and low posts, has good interior footwork, can drop step and hit turnaround jumpers utilizing the glass. He is a little short on athleticism in terms of jumping ability so he is not a great shot blocker for his size averaging just 1 per game, though he is a competent shot blocker and his best defensive strength may be the intimidation he creates more than what he actually does. He lacks lateral quickness so he is not able to get around defenders for offensive rebounds, but he is a good defensive rebounder where he uses his size and strength to block out. His rebounding, shot blocking and scoring have dropped about 25% due to the emergence of his teammate Stromile Swift. Somewhat a plus as it shows he can be a role player and will not demand to be a star. Not a good free throw shooter at all.
Dan McClintock C 7'1 250 23 B D D B- C C
Northern Arizona Senior
A good interior scorer, but awful shooter and not very mobile. I think that McClintock lacks the speed and rebounding skills to be a first round pick in this draft. Has good post moves (a nice turn-around jumper and a great hook from the lane). A good passer from the post, but may have trouble adapting to SSBL defensive players and their quickness. McClintock's biggest plus is his personality. He is simply a great guy.
Brad Millard C 7'3 345 23 C D- F+ B+ C D
St. Mary's Senior
A huge, huge man. His presence alone intimidates opposing players. He is a good defender due to his size, but limited in almost all areas offensively. For his size, surprisingly not a good rebounder. All his rebounds usually just end up in his vicinity and he just grabs them. If a team drafts this fellow, it would be for his defensive presence alone.
Kenyon Jones C 6'10 278 22 C+ C- C- C+ B- C
San Francisco Senior
He is a good hustler. He was overweight and often looked a bit lost on the court at Cal, but then he made a very smart move: transferred to USF, where Phil Matthews rode him very hard and he had one very good year. He's got SSBL size and a nice soft touch on his shot. Will he continue to improve without a drill sargent in his ear? Jones is a tough, physical player who also has decent outside touch and can run. Sounds like a pro.
