Corey Maggette SF 6'6 215 21 B C+ C C+ C A
Duke Soph
Corey Maggette returned to Duke due to the stacked SF class of last year and wanted to help bring the Blue Devils a national title. Sadly, his game after one season hasn't improved at all, but on the plus side, hasn't deteriorated at all either. Maggette is a scoring threat who gets the rim at will. He’s super athletic, drives to the rim, put his head down, and scores with ease. However he gets too cocky and selfish at times and forgets that there are 4 other teammates on the floor. This may mess up team chemistry a bit, but if Maggette matures, it should be no problem. He's still very young and has time to develop.
Jonathan Bender SF 7'0 195 19 C+ C+ D+ C+ C A
Mississippi State Fr
Bender committed to Mississippi State last year. One year at college and you could tell Bender has been developing his SF game more than his PF game, which is a shame. The dude is a legit 7'0" and should be a dominant force if he set himself to it. At least his shot selection improved and so did his jumpshot. In HS he was a man among boys, but playing college ball forced him to adjust and learn the game. Still, Bender is RAW
Darius Miles SF 6'8 200 19 C+ C+ C- C C A
East St. Louis HS
Miles garnered the most attention from scouts of all the high school players who entertained thoughts of skipping college and jumping straight to the Pros. He's an athletic, dynamic player who has a combination of skills. He could probably play big guard, given his ball handling skills, but he can also rebound, block shots and hit the mid-range jumper with regularity, which means he could play either forward spot, especially when he gains size and strength. He averaged 19 points and 14 rebounds his senior season. Miles had scouts drooling after the McDonald's All-American game, where he scored 17 points on eight-of-14 shooting, grabbed six rebounds and handed out four assists. He is contemplating attending St. John's in the fall, but it all depends on his first-round forecast...he wants to be a high pick, but only time (the wildcard) will tell...
Mike Miller SF 6'8 215 20 C+ B+ C C+ C+ A
Flordia Sophomore
Miller is one of those rare players who makes those around him better. He's got good instincts for the game, passes well from the forward position and is very unselfish, maybe even to a fault. Several times in some of Florida's bigger games, he seemed to hide for extended periods, not even looking for his shot. He'll have to be more assertive in the pros, but he has the tools to do so. He's a better-than-average perimeter shooter, but he can also take the ball to the basket. Very good rebounder for a guard as well. Known since his high school days as "Skinny," Miller will have to get stronger to withstand the pounding he'll take in the Pros. Still uncertain about returning to school or declaring.
Yakhouba Diawara SF 6'7 225 18 C+ C+ C B- C- B (European contract)
France
This kid from France has decided to enter his name into the Draft pool but is already in talks of signing a contract with the JDA Dijon in the European League. This guy is super athletic and can really elevate around the rim. His long arms make him a decent defender as well. At the wildcard, Diawara will decide if he will keep his name in this year’s draft, or just remain in France to play professionally for God-knows how long.
Hidayet Turkoglu SF 6'10 220 21 C+ B C+ C+ C A
Efes Pilsen S.K. Turkey
Spent the last 4 seasons playing for Efes Pilsen S.K. in the Euroleague. Not a teenager anymore, "Hedo" has emerged as a point-forward type player who is very versatile. Aside from his handling and passing skills, he is also a good spot up shooter and can penetrate as well. Not overly athletic or quick, he needs to work on his perimeter defense. Skinny too, needs to work on strength and conditioning. He's not quick enough to play Point in SSBL, and not strong enough to bang with the SFs either, so he'll need to work on several parts of his game.
Antonis Fotsis SF 6'10 230 19 C B- D+ B- C A
Panathinaikos Greece
Fotsis played a 6th man role for Panathinaikos in Greece this past season where he averaged 7 pts and 3 rebs in 18 mins per game. He's like a Bender-type SF/PF in that he is a long-lanky body but prefers the perimeter game than the inside game. He does get a bunch of blocks though, but isn't the best rebounder at 6'10". Definitely a project.
Chris Carrawell SF 6'6 220 23 C+ B- C C+ C B
Duke Senior
A true swingman, CC has the skills and size to play both the shooting guard or small forward position in the Pros. Pretty athletic with good ball handling skills, he has even played at point guard in college. He is an all around player who does a good job on both offense and defense. He is good at driving to the basket with a very good first step and the ability to finish. Has shown good shot selection. He moves well without the ball, has the ability to shoot off the dribble, and is a fairly good FT shooter. He averaged 3.2 assists per game with an excellent assist to turnover ratio of 1.6. He is a good rebounder for his size and is not afraid of contact below the boards. On defense his quick feet and long reach make him a good defender able to guard fast point guards to larger forwards. Pretty good shot blocker too.
Hanno Mottola SF 6'10 240 24 C+ B- D+ C C+ B
Utah Senior
Mottola has the skill and brains to become a decent pro, but he needs to get a little tougher, on defense and on the boards. Mottola is a polished offensive player who shot 49 percent from the field, 35 percent from 3-point range and 82 percent from the free-throw line. Not the best rebounder for his size but gets the occasional defensive board that falls in his lap. This guy is durable and has had few injuries in his career. He compares best to Toni Kukoc. Same height and weight and very similar style in the way they play the game. Needs to work on defense and conditioning.
Ime Udoka SF 6'5 215 23 C C+ C- B C- B
Portland State Senior
Udoka is a relatively unknown talent at the moment, but from what scouts have seen of him thus far, there might potential here. Offensively, he is somewhat limited...lacks fluidity and creativity. But able to play effectively as a role-player, spotting up and exploiting mismatches. Is a decent three point shooter with his feet set. Favors spotting up in the short corners and waiting for the kick out pass. Supplements his spot shooting with a big strong body that he uses to post up smaller players. Pretty clever finisher for a largely ground bound player. Makes the solid pass, not the spectacular one. He will make a living in this because of his DEFENSE. If not a true stopper, then at least a very solid "slower" that is often brought in to cool the opposing team's hot hand at SG or SF. Can guard some slower PGs and smaller PFs as well. Not a great athlete, but is well built for a SF, very strong for a SG, and unafraid of contact. A solid rebounder at either spot with his strength tempered by a lack of hops.
Jumaine Jones SF 6'7 210 21 C+ B- C- C+ C B
Georgia Jr
A wildcard returnee, Jones returned to Georgia for his junior year but has already made up his mind to forgo his senior year and make bank in the Pros. Offensively, Jones can take the ball to the basket, but is more at home shooting off the dribble. He has good range on his shot, but I don't see him being a big-time 3-point shooter in the Pros, but loves the corner 3's. He also runs the floor well and can score in transition. He is a good rebounder and shot-blocker for a small forward, which will keep opposing small forwards from trying to post him up. His defense, though, needs some improvement, and his shooting tends to be streaky. He also needs to develop more consistency overall in his game. JJ is a likely late 1st or early 2nd round pick. He probably is not an immediate starter, but his athleticism and offensive skills are good enough for him to be a starter one day.
Jarett Stephens SF 6'6 262 B- D+ D+ C+ C+ C
Penn State Senior
Stephens is a bull who can get to the basket with strength. He was a double-double guy in college...more of an undersized PF than a SF. Limited range, horrendous jumpshot. He is a big strong dude, but also a slow one. Pretty athletic though. With some camps he could one day develop into LJ 2.0.
Kaniel Dickens SF 6'8 215 22 C+ C C B C C
Idaho Junior
The Big Dick(ens) is a long, lanky player who is known primarily for his defense. Other parts of his game need work. Not a threat offensively. Rebounding comes and goes. Good finisher off the break though. Jumpshot is alright but not known as a shooter. FT shooting is alright. He is a hustle player, though, and that is what you will get out of him night-in, night out.
Mike Smith SF 6'8 195 24 C+ C+ C- B- C+ C
U of Louisiana at Monroe Senior
Smith may be one of those rare gems from lesser-known conferences who turns up every year. Smith is a bit slender at 6-8 and 195 pounds, but he has the full range of skills. The Southland Conference Player of the Year averaged 20.1 points and a league-leading 9.4 rebounds this season. He was also sixth in the SLC in free-throw percentage (79.6), tied for second in 3-pointers per game (2.6) and eighth in blocked shots (93). He is good in a multitude of areas, but not great at one...or great at all areas. He could be a second-round pick.
Reed Rawlings SF 6'7 235 23 C B+ D+ C D+ C
Samford Senior
For a white guy, Rawlings is a good leaper, is strong and can score from inside or out. He has the body to withstand the pounding in the Pros and is more athletic than people know. Fun fact: he also played baseball for Samford and has a 90-plus fastball. On the Bball court, he has a 25 foot jumper too. Not very quick though. Needs to work on defense big time.
Chris Porter SF 6'7 218 22 C B C- C C+ D
Auburn Senior
Endured some NCAA off-the-court problems involving accepting money illegally, but nonetheless, Porter is a pure baller. Has a really smooth jumper...can shoot off the dribble and catch-and-shoot situations. Not the best ball handler though. Defense is a concern. Has good size for a SG/SF...Pretty good leaper and rebounder, but hopefully he can keep the off-the-court stuff behind him.
Pete Mickeal SF 6'7 220 22 C+ C C- C C+ D
Cincinnati Senior
He's a blender, a winner and as tough as they come. Tough inside scorer and a rugged rebounder, but if the going gets too tough inside, he can move outside with equal ability. He is a pretty efficient scorer all around, but not great. Has good size for a SF, but defense is lacking. Can rebound pretty well, especially off of the offensive glass.
Harold Arceneaux SF 6'6 215 22 B- B- C- C C D
Weber State Senior
This kid can score at least 20 points a game in the big leagues. He has great leaping ability and very good range. "The Show" first burst upon the college basketball scene in the 1999 NCAA tournament, when he scored 36 points and led upstart Weber State to a first-round upset of mighty North Carolina. He followed that with 32 points in a narrow defeat to Florida in the second round. Arceneaux does his damage with great athleticism and a quick first step to the basket. He's a decent outside shooter but could be more consistent. It also wouldn't hurt to improve his passing skills a bit. He averaged 23 points last season, 27.2 in Big Sky Conference games. Arceneaux shot 51 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line and grabbed 7.4 boards per game. But will his lacking defense hurt his stock that much? If so, would probably be selected in the 2nd round, unless someone in the late 1st round needs a scorer off the bench.
JaRon Rush SF 6'7 207 21 B- C C C C D
UCLA Sophomore
A highly athletic swingman, Rush can rebound, run the floor but is an inconsistent outside shooter. An NCAA ordeal for taking money from his AAU coach before college means Rush has really played less than a season-and-a-half of college ball. Knowing the NCAA would require him to repay the full amount, of money given to him, Rush dropped out of school and began preparing for the draft. Good athlete but woefully unprepared for the NBA. Leaper and runner but not a good ball handler and his shot is inconsistent. He played more PF than anything as a freshman. Rush has ability but he's played far too little and he's not a guard.
Mark Karcher SF 6'5 220 22 C+ C C- C+ C D
Temple Junior
When the game is on the line, Karcher likes the ball in his hands. He isn't afraid to take the big shot, and Temple was only too willing to let him do it the past two years. Karcher, who can score inside or out, was a first-team All-Atlantic 10 pick and was an A-10 All-Tournament selection. He has the size to handle the beating he'll take in the pros. He is a prolific scorer, but got the job done in college. I don’t know how his game will translate in SSBL. He isn't very athletic, lacks rebounding skills, and defensive ability to last long in the league.
