SSBL is really a wing players game, much like real life NBA. The game is dominated by great slashers/scorers who can defend their position well. Grabbing a quality big man in this league is not only a treasure, but a necessity to have. I’m sure we can all agree that the Center position in this league is a valuable one at most and there are not a whole lot of GREAT centers. Let’s take a look at the top 5 Centers in SSBL today
#5) Greg Oden
Averages 11.8 points per game, 10.2 rebounds per game, and a beastly 3.3 blocks per game. Oden single handedly forces teams to shoot from the outside due to his outstanding presence in the middle. Blocks everything making it hard to shoot over him. This big man would be a perfect fit in any team/rotation understanding his role on offense and eating people up on defense. Oden’s 11-12 points per game is a treat that goes along with his outstanding blocks per game and his ability to grab rebounds.
#4 Dirk Nowitzki
Averages 22.6 points per game, 9.2 rebounds per game and the best free throw shooter of all centers averaging 90.8% from the stripe. Pure scorer, can torch you inside and out. Has the ability to post up and take you off the dribble but prefers to shoot 3’s and tough fadeaways. Might not be the quickest player but makes up for it with his deceptive up and under moves and his infamous turn-around jumper. The big German is more of a PF but is playing Center for the struggling Spurs, but still continues to impress the league and everyone in it. He’s playing for a new deal so expect Dirk to continue his offensive onslaught throughout the next 20 days.
#3 Andrew Bogut
Averages 18.6 points per game, 13.3 rebounds per game, and 2.8 blocks per game. Old school center, plays back to the basket and as Walt Clyde Frazier would say, will “ Post you and toast you.” Scores at will down low getting 18 a game on a team that can put up a lot of points. With Deron, Artest, and Cooke all on the team, it really is impressive that Bogut keeps up with them and gets as many points as he does. This huge Aussie is a great shot blocker as well, having exquisite timing and long arms. Great defender who can also run the floor pretty well to get easy buckets.
#2 Al Jefferson
Averages 23.6 points per game, 13 rebounds per game, 2.3 blocks per game. Yes I’m being biased because he’s on my team, and I don’t really care. He’s a scorer and always has been. Like Bogut, would rather play back to the basket and annialate his opponents with flashy post moves and tremendous footwork. Tremendous athlete, can jump with the best of them. Cleans up the glass well leading the league last year in boards. Always averages 2 blocks per game, has a knack for blocking shots. An inside focus this year has benefited for AJ as he is scoring at will down low.
#1 Amare Stoudemire
Averages 28.1 points per game, 11 rebounds per game and rounds out the list as best of the best. Highest point per game average of all centers. Freakish athlete, who can run the floor like most slashers. Has the ability to face up and shoot jumpers, but can also take you off the dribble and dunk on defenders faces. He should average more blocks per game due to his excellent leaping ability, but makes up for it on the offensive end.
Runner-up- Yao Ming
There you have it, the league’s best centers. All great centers, and all capable of putting up huge numbers. More is to come, PF’s – PG’s are gunna all be done.
