To Recap:
What Happened??
The landscape of SSBLv4 was changed dramatically 2 seasons ago, when 9 teams were faced with adversity when their previous leaders were either fired, or left the team for other reasons. The Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets, Charlotte Bobcats, Toronto Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers all saw old regimes take a new step into the future by hiring their current managers.
Of those 9 teams, 2 managers were let go for the dreaded contract year - the effervescent and adored afro, who managed the Grizzlies to 2 championships, and the not so popular heelsguy25 who never had a clue, were let go without any choice of their own.
Three managers were fired due to incompetence; Streetballa who led the Clippers into the ground before being taken over by the legendary Schmaranz; crazymike, who believed posting DC's was garbage while his Suns somehow won the conference in a cloudy 2008 season; and lastly, verysilentone, who was just that, leaving the Nets vacant.
The other 4 teams were left by their managers for other reasons. When the Miami Heat failed to impress their previous owner during the teams training camp, Shawncro simply said he had enough of this team, in this league, and left immediately thereafter. In Charlotte, reke proclaimed he had a period of enlightenment which included a trip to heaven to speak with god. He too, left almost immediately, before returning to a heavenly franchise
Toronto was abandoned by Joel during a binge in which he was seen by paparazzi scaling a brick wall to the 2nd story of a crack house, then, miraculously flying out of the same window with a black garbage bag before a giant explosion nearly engulfed him mid-air. (Had to make it interesting, right?) Finally, the Los Angeles Lakers were dumped by life long leader Schmaranz after he was offered the Leprachauns gold stash by the Clippers to take over the dismal joke of a team.

We left off discussing the major trades made by both teams in the Atlantic Division. Next up, we will discuss the two teams playing in the Central Division, the Charlotte Bobcats, and Toronto Raptors...
What Next??
Charlotte Bobcats:
2010 Record: 41-41
Major Trades:
Bobcats trade:
Tayshaun Prince
2012 first
Andy Rautins
Nets trade:
Marcus Taylor
Shannon Brown
ssbl4.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=4420
"Prince is a bum, trading the pick hurts but I get under cap and keep my core in tact. Taylor is nice and Brown might blow up." - steveragain
In the only move Steveragain made all season, it was crucial for one reason - avoiding the dreaded Hardcap. The cost? Well, it was pretty pricey - he had to give up a first round draft pick in a time where his teams future has still yet to be finalized. With Jamal Crawford, who played a huge role off the bench, expiring after the season, there are many question marks including the future of Ray Allen, who was acquired in a trade which shipped away Dwyane Wade. Allen is 35 years old, and had his worst statistical year since his rookie year. With the Hardcap still looming, Stever needs to tread lightly around what he brings in, and what he hopes to accomplish next season.
Toronto Raptors:
2010 Record: 50-32
Major Trades:
Toronto Receive:
Kobe Bryant
Danilo Gallinari
Ramon Sessions
1600 cash
Pacers Receive:
Tyreke Evans
Rudy Gay
Shane Battier (MLE)
"I've been trying to get rid of gay for awhile only cause he went down in [training camp] again this year, and might be well on his way to an overpaid scrub, so being able to pick up 22 yr old [Gallinari] helps me now and in the future. Trading [Tyreke] sucks, but I need another scorer outside of Monta, and Kobe provides that scoring we'll need till he retires.....Plus I wana try and contend until the year I get my firsts back." - Reke
This move was deemed by many to be questionable at best. After moving Trevor Ariza, who eventually became the league's scoring champion on the Magic, for the 3rd overall pick [Tyreke Evans], Reke pulls the trigger on a deal with huge risk and huge reward should it come to fruition. He was able to essentially dump the contract of Rudy Gay, however the price was steep. Kobe Bryant is nearing 35, and has declined each year since his MVP season the last time he played for Toronto. Statistically, he is still an imposing force, but the question of "how much longer?" is looming heavy over Toronto at this point.
Evans has all the tools to become a force in the league in a few years. With the core reke assembled, Evans would have fit perfectly as the average age of his starting lineup is 25 years old. Monta is still a fresh 23 year old, and Biedrins is one of the brightest young centers in the SSBL at just 24. His team was succeeding before the trade, so to justify the deal by stating he wanted to "win now" was a head scratcher.
Memphis Grizzlies:
2010 Record: 24-58
Major Trades:
Grizzlies trade:
Eddy Curry
Morris Almond
Cavaliers trade:
Eddie Griffin
Wesley Johnson
Fransisco Garcia
ssbl4.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=4362
"We drop Curry to make room for Cousins at the Center spot, pick up our future at SG in Wes Johnson and a great backup option in Garcia who will probably see playing time. The expiring was the kicker in this trade." - Kmatrixg
Memphis Trades:
Danny Granger
Sam Young
P.J. Tucker
Detroit Trades:
Jordan Hill
Jrue Holiday
Mo Williams
Marcus Williams
2012 Pistons 1st Rounder
ssbl4.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=4403
"This may come as a surprise to some, but I've been secretly shopping Granger all weekend. With this deal, we fortify our future at all 5 positions, with backups as well. We obtain cap relief, and pick up a draft pick next season, which I doubt will be any decent, but youth is youth. We will now have about 15 million in cap space entering next offseason as well as all our picks, and tons of youth." - Kmatrixg
Mavericks Trade:
Steve Blake
Bobcats 2012 1st
Mavs 2015 1st
Grizzlies Trade:
Francisco Garcia
Mo Williams
Chris Duhon
Grizz 2011 2nd
Grizz 2014 2nd
ssbl4.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=4562
"We unload the last of our unwanted contracts in this deal and pick up a couple of future firsts. Garcia was a great player for us, as was Mo off the bench, but with this deal I get rid of Garcias 18 million owed, and it allows me to play some younger guys like Wes Johnson in the starting role." - Kmatrixg
Grizzlies Trade:
DeMarcus Cousins
Alexis Ajinca
Suns Trade:
DJ Augustin
2011 Atlanta Hawks 1st
ssbl4.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=4608
"This draft looks really good - DeMarcus Cousins disappointed me being the 5th pick, so I really don't want him anymore, potential or not. I pick up 4th year PG DJ Augustin who I can hopefully resign and get another asset out of if I want to. This deal was about getting something else tangible from the draft specifically and the 1st is tremendous here for the Grizz." - Kmatrixg
Grizz trade:
Kevin Love
DJ Augustin
Blazers trade:
Thabeet
Blair
Harden
1500 Cash
ssbl4.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=4644
"I move Cousins for Harden essentially, and pick up a quality def/reb center, a flier, and 1500 cash for love. Most importantly, I can justify taking [Kyrie] Irving, should he fall in my lap." - Kmatrixg
After taking over for Afro and his legendary Grizzlies, I tried my hardest to reshape the team with a full youth overhaul. Moving the group to Memphis, I saw an opportunity to avoid tarnishing the Vancouver name in the SSBL record books. I was lucky enough to have a well-minded GM who didn't move future firsts in an attempt to win now and save his ass. Thank you Afro!
Because the 2010 draft was very deep and I had my eye on a few players, I jumped on the opportunity to add Wesley Johnson and move Eddy Curry's big contract for a couple expirings and the young wing. While Johnson has yet to wow me with his play, I have hope that he'll come around as soon as next season as a big time scorer. Despite Parker being a 12 million dollar serviceable player, I couldn't, for the life of me, move him.
The next step was to liquidate my biggest asset - Danny Granger. By moving Granger for Hill and Jrue Holiday, I received two great young players who have proven their worth this past season. Heading into the offseason, the Grizzlies will have roughly 25 million dollars in cap space, 2 draft picks (Projected 1st overall, projected 14 overall) and 5 positions filled with young hopefuls. Through the 6 trades, I've been able to reshape the Grizz without tarnishing the franchise in the eyes of the collective SSBL heads.
