WUCHA GUNNA DO BROTHER?
Coach Van Gundy was all smiles after the Magic had a successful training camp and Preseason. The Magic have missed the playoffs for the last 3 seasons, something that has never happened before, but going into this season, General Manager Ray Nu5 was optimistic about the teams immediate future.
Trevor Ariza (A- A- C A- C C) has really shined, and could very well be one of the league's top scorers this season. Ariza was acquired late last season in a deal that sent Rudy Gay and a draft pick (that eventually turned out to be rookie Tyreke Evans). "He's been working on his jumpshot and 3pt shot all summer, and was Preseason enough proof of the pudding?" said Stan Van Gundy of the All-League Third team player last season. Ariza Led the team in scoring with 26.2 PPG to help the Magic to an 8-4 Preseason record. The Magic were 5th in the Preseason in 3PT FG% and all three leading scorers for the Magic were amongst the top 10 in 3PT FG attempted.
Ariza makes it rain.
Brazilian Forward Anderson "Carlito Caribbean Cool" Varejao looks forward to his first full season with the team. Varejao was also acquired mid-season last year via trade with Dallas. "I spit in the face of people who don't think we're cool", says Varejao of the team's future success.
Varejao and some blurry old white guy.
Second-year player and former #1overall draft pick Russell Westbrook has been working hard in the offseason, working on his jumpshot and passing. In the preseason, he averaged an impressive 19.4 PPG and 10.1 APG to go along with 6.3 RPG. "I'm just working on all aspects of my game, hoping to do whatever it takes to get my team some wins this season." Westbrook has been virtually given the keys to the offense as he now looks to replace veteran Beno Udrih in the starting lineup this year. Well, Udrih sucks anyway.
Westbrook is the Magic franchise PG.
Another big story of the Magic training camp was the impressive play of former Illinois guard Dee Brown, who begins his second full season with the team. Brown boasts some sexy ratings himself, improving to B- A- B- A- D C this past training camp. He will fight for a starting spot with Kelenna Azubuike, but also accepts the 6th Man role to provide a scoring bunch off the bench for he and Westbrook this year.
Wow, Dee Brown looks jacked here.
Nice Preseason for the Magic, but now it's time to produce in the regular season. We wouldn't want another commish in the Contract Year, would we? Hope not!
