Derrick Favors
A few years while he was still in High School a prominent scout called Favors the next Dwight Howard and since then Favors has made marginal improvements. He seemed content with being the bust instead of being the next big time prospect. Favors already has a SSBL body and the athleticism that makes him the very interesting prospect. He has a huge wingspan that will allow him to develop into a great shotblocker and he should be a force on the boards. His offensive game is limited to dunks right now and he should be considered a project on offense. For the team that takes Favors they will need to show patience and allow him the time to develop properly. When you look at his frame and age its easy to assume that Favors will be a sure fire top pick in this draft.
Tyreke Evans
The combo guard out of Memphis was the latest Calipari project. Tyreke had a tale of two seasons in college, the shooting guard Evans and the point guard Evans. At shooting guard he seemed to struggle at times, really didn't play well without the ball in his hands. He had a hard time trying to position himself and create off the ball. After he switched to point guard we saw him take off and really dominant. The offense really took off when he became point guard, he has a ideal guard body. His shot is a work in progress but his drive right now should be considered elite. Evans has a solid mid range game but with his unorthodox style teams might tamper with him and change the shot. As a point guard he does a good job attacking and driving and dishing off. He still has a way to go before he becomes a real point guard.
John Wall
Explosive, dynamic, jaw dropping, game changer, playmaker... these are the words that are usually associated with Wall. John Wall is a franchise changing point guard due to the skills that he brings to the table. He is a terror in transition, he is lightning quick and there are only a few players that can stay in front of him. His length allows him to create havoc on the defensive end, will be a league leader every year in steals. His jumpshot like most young players needs some work but everything else is already there. With his speed, length and relentless attacking style he can be the best point in this draft. What he needs to do is work on ball control because he often tries to do to much and turns it over because of that. However the sky is the limit for this kid.
Evan Turner
A lot of people love to compare him to a prime Penny, they might be right. When looking at the tape on Turner he does appear to have it all. Standing at 6'7 he can play the 1, 2 or 3. He has excellent ball handling skills for a player of his size. Unlike most players in this draft he is already equipped with a jump shot that should allow him to hit the ground running. He is a rebounding machine for a shooting guard, should be one of the best. Evan Turner has an all around game that makes him one of the safest picks in this draft. The question with him will be does he have more potential or is he a finished product already? The other question will be where do you play him, do you really want to take the ball out of his hands? Either way Turner will be a lottery pick for sure because of his talents.
Greg Monroe
The first thing that jumps out at people is that he is a big man out of Georgetown, due to the history of this school. The likes of Ewing and Alonzo have come from this program, Monroe is a new breed with a throwback game. Monroe has a silky smooth mid range game, one of the best for a big man. He has a knack for the boards using his body effectively and boxes out often. With his wing span he should do good on the boards. However the thing that really makes him stand out is his ball handling ability, you can easily run your offense through him at the high post. On paper he is one of the best project players you can take a chance on in this draft, give him a few years and he can develop into one of the better all around forwards in this draft.
DeMarcus Cousins
Standing at 6'11 and 270 pounds he is a force to be reckoned with. He is an absolute brute around the rim yet can be graceful at times as well. Cousins is a hard prospect to really figure out because of how inconsistent he can be. At time he is the sure fire number one pick and at other times he plays like a career back up. Cousins at the end of the day can play with his back to the basket and has a shot that reaches out to fifteen feet. The other thing that really stands out with him is that he really goes after it on the boards, a feat that is often lost on young players. His defense will need to be worked on however with you look at the total package that he brings he is an ideal player to roll the dice on. His talent is really in a class of its own for big men.
James Harden
A real shock when he didn't declare last year however the timing is right for him now. Harden is another shooting guard that can handle the ball. A lot of people like to call him the left handed Brandon Roy and maybe there onto something. Harden has the best shot coming into this draft and a SSBL ready three pointer. He can handle the ball and run the pick and roll or pop effortlessly, as well as drive it to the rim and finish with either hand. Harden needs a little work with his perimeter defense because he often slacks there. Overall he is one of the better shooting guards in this draft and its going to be interesting to see where he falls.
Enes Kanter
When your talking about long term projects that can really pay off, this is your guy. Kanter didn't play this year due to him playing overseas at a younger age so the scouts aren't sure what to make of him. The best thing they can go off of is past tournaments, if that's any indication of where he project then he is a beast. Kanter reminds us a lot of Brook Lopez with better handling and rebounding. Kanter has a nice jumpshot for a big guy, can play the pick and pop game all night long. However he is only 18 years old and will take time to develop. He is the ideal guy to roll the dice on because with his frame and potential, he can be the best big guy in this draft if he pans out.
Wesley Johnson
I'm not really sure who let this old guy in, but here he is. At 23 years old he is the most SSBL ready prospect in this draft. On offense he has a shot that's reliable and stretches out to the three point line. He has good quickness and athleticism that you look for in your small forward and he has a freakish wingspan for his size. This allows him to play good man to man defense and cause terror with steals. He attempts to steal everything but never gets caught out of position. If your a team that is looking for a safe guy that won't bust, this is your man. Only concern is how much potential does he really have left, a lot of GM's often prefer to take the younger guy with more potential.
