Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality?
FBB is a weird little girl. So random. TC's make some players destined-to-be-great worse, and some destined-to-be-scrubs into studs. Let's look at some weird real life / SSBL discrepancies:
Whoa, whoa. Who saw that coming?
Players who you never would have guessed bloomed into a lovely flower.
Erick Dampier:
SSBL career: 16.8 PPG / 10.8 RPG / 1.9 BPG / 2 championships
NBA career: 7.5 PPG / 7.2 RPG / 1.4 BPG / 0 championships
Some really nice TC's turned Dampier into the freakin Tim Duncan of real life. Only in a sim league.
Jordan Farmar
SSBL career: 20.9 PPG / 3.7 RPG / 8.7 APG
NBA career: 7.4 PPG / 1.9 RPG / 2.7 APG
'08 3pt Shootout champ, '08 All-League 3rd team.
D-League helped him out his real-rookie season and now he's one of the bright spots in Dallas.
Marcus Williams
SSBL career: 14.8 PPG / 4.4 RPG / 8.4 APG
NBA career: 5.6 PPG / 1.8 RPG / 2.8 APG
2x All Star (ASMVP both times)
Who saw this one coming? Such an efficient scorer and passer for the Spurs right now. Want to see a funny video on youtube? search for "Everyone hates Richard Jefferson" which Marcus Williams co-stars in.
Paccelis Morlende
SSBL career: 12.7 PPG / 3.9 RPG / 7.1 APG
NBA career: n/a
The pride and joy of the late kmatrixg, Pac-man puts up some good numbers despite average-looking ratings.
Quentin Richardson
SSBL career: 19.3 PPG / 6.3 RPG / in 33.1 MPG
NBA career: 10.6 PPG / 4.8 / in 27.1 MPG
Yeah, who saw this one coming? Q-Rich has always been one of the better defenders in the league, which is complimented by his crazy good scoring ratings that dated back to his LAC days when Yesisme was around.
Ha Seung Jin
SSBL career: 13.4 PPG / 11.1 RPG / 1.4 BPG
NBA career: 1.5 PPG / 1.5 RPG / 0.3 BPG
Ha blossomed playing alongside Dwight (see, below) and became a rebounding/defensive beast.
Sergei Karaulov
SSBL career: 7.3 PPG / 10.8 RPG / 2.9 BPG
NBA career: n/a
Foreign prospects are hit-or-miss, but Ollie definitely hit on this one. Now in the running for DPOY this year.
Vassilis Spanoulis
SSBL career: 17.1 PPG / 3.8 RPG / in 32.3 MPG
NBA career: 2.7 PPG / 0.7 RPG / in 8.8 MPG
Another foreigner who benefited from a few good TC's who is being PAID!
Brad Newley
SSBL career: 12.9 PPG / 4.4 RPG / in 29.7 MPG
NBA career: n/a
Two words: Developmental League.
Steve Blake
SSBL career: 15.7 PPG / 4.4 RPG / 8.6 APG
NBA career 7.1 PPG / 2.1 RPG / 4.0 APG
The former Twolves captain has always been an efficient PG with high assists and low turnovers. Haha. Steve Blake is good.
Daequan Cook
SSBL career: 17.5 PPG / 5.0 RPG / in 32.4 MPG
NBA career 7.5 PPG / 2.3 RPG / in 20.6 MPG
Cook benefited from 2 stints in the DLeague before emerging as a pimp scorer for SA before being traded to the Lakers in '08. Was an All-Star for the firs time this season.
Eh, not what I expected...
players who were solid, but you expected something else.
LeBron James
SSBL career: 22.0 PPG / 7.7 RPG / 7.5 APG / 2 championships
NBA career: 27.7 PPG / 7.1 RPG / 7.0 APG / 0 championships
Definitely good numbers and even averages a near Triple Double, but by now you'd think LeBron would be averaging close to 30 a game, no?
Chris Paul:
SSBL career: 15.3 PPG / 4.8 RPG / 8.8 APG
NBA career: 18.7 PPG / 4.6 RPG / 9.9 APG
Again, solid numbers, but he can't even manage to stay on a single team for a whole season! He's bounced around a few times already, and his average scoring ratings explain why a GM can't stay in love with him for long.
Tony Parker:
SSBL career: 12.6 PPG / 2.5 RPG / 5.0 APG
NBA career: 16.7 PPG / 3.1 RPG / 5.7 APG
What happened? He could have been one of the league's most dynamic scorer, instead, every GM who has had him couldnt figure out whether to start him at PG, SG, or off the bench as a backup to both. The RL Tony Parker is a proven winner. This Tony Parker...not so much?
What happened?
Players who were projected to be the next big thing, but sadly, ended up being nothing more than a solid role player or worse.
Dwight Howard
SSBL career: 8.6 PPG / 10.4 RPG / 2.2 BPG
NBA career: 18.2 PPG / 12.9 RPG / 2.2 BPG
The 1st pick in 2003, people expected him to be this dominant inside force. Well, credit the previous Suns GM who couldnt figure out how to camp. But you can't totally blame it on him, also his bad TC's had most to do with it. He's the real life Ben Wallace (in his prime)
Manu Ginobili
SSBL career: 10.3 PPG / 3.5 RPG / 2.5 APG
NBA career: 15.3 PPG / 4.0 RPG / 3.9 APG
What happened? Manu was projected to be this dynamic combo guard, but instead, has continually stayed shitty through every TC. Meh.
Baron Davis
SSBL career: 10.3 PPG / 3.2 RPG / 3.3 APG
NBA career: 16.5 PPG / 3.9 RPG / 7.3 APG
Never really developed the PG-tools through every TC since he was drafted. Now just a scorer with bad handles and bad defense.
Caron Butler
SSBL career: 13.8 PPG / 5.1 RPG / 2.5 APG
NBA career: 16.6 PPG / 5.9 RPG / 2.9 APG
The 2nd pick of the 2002 Draft started out solid, averaging 22.1 in his rookie year, but went down in minutes and scoring almost every year. This year he can't even seem to break the Clippers' rotation. Sucks.
