1 Philadelphia 76ers - Russell Westbrook SG 6'3'' 187 21 B- C+ C+ B C A
Never have I see a GM agonize about a pick that no one cared about. In what is being considered one of the weakest drafts in terms of franchise elite talent, the 76ers found themselves stuck in the war room for over a day without sun light, food, water or a way out. It was no secret that the 76ers wanted Brook Lopez instead of drafting another guard with a team that already has Chris Paul and Derrick Rose. Therefore the 76ers and Magic worked out a deal that essentially swapped picks. Russell Westbrook right off the bat will be qrilled as to if he is a shooting guard or a point guard. That guy says how can you be a shooting guard when you can't shoot? Westbrook should be a point guard and will make a hell of point guard at that. My biggest fear is that the team rejects him because the team is filled with a whole bunch of D-League bust who can never make it in the league the first go around.
2 Houston Rockets - Brandon Jennings PG 6'1'' 170 20 B- B B- B- D+ A
I still don't know what's better, the fact that the Rockets actually got this pick for a guy he didn't want around or the fact that he is on a mission to recreate the horrible Bucks team in real life. However the latter is not fair to say because unlike that Bucks team this team has talent and well a good Brandon Jennings. Right off the bat Jennings comes into one of the most unique locker rooms in the league, featuring Iverson, Mr Lima, Brand and Bogut. For Jennings he doesn't need to start this year because the Rockets have one of the most underrated point guards in SSBL history in Mr Lima. However we sense a bit of a youth movement that is about to begin in Houston, we wouldn't be surprised to see Brand and Iverson shipped this season. Mr Jennings will be the face of the franchise and Houston, we have a problem.
3 Orlando Magic - Brook Lopez C 7'0'' 260 21 B C- C- B C A
Hey look at that, a team that still owns it's lottery pick what are the odds? Well at least they did for a few minutes. Over the year the 76ers have taken on a lot of reclamation projects and Lopez will be no different. They took a gamble on Paul, that worked out well. They took a gamble on Howard, that's worked out so so. However they now face the biggest project thus far in Brook Lopez, somehow they will need to remove the outrageous size vagina that he possess. On paper Howard is the perfect compliment to him, but that would have been the Howard that reached his potential. Lopez should be an effective scorer, averaging 15 points at least easily in his rookie year. However can the 76ers win with such a weak rebounding power forward?
4 Los Angeles Clippers - Ricky Rubio (Overseas) PG 6'4'' 180 19 C+ C B+ C D+ A
There is a part of me that wants to laugh at this pick, another that wants to laugh at the fact that its the new Clippers GM that made this pick. Overnight [literally] the Clippers have reshaped the roster of overrated youth to semi respectable overrated youth. They brought in Rondo to be the leader of the franchise along side of Rudy Gay? yes, question mark. The Clippers now at least own their pick next year so it won't matter how bad they're this year. Oh, Rubio? Ask me in what three years? By that time we have to wonder if anyone will give a damn about Rubio. We think he can develop a shot in three years time. If this was any other team I would be blasting this pick probably, but this pick at least allows the Clippers to have a huge asset to trade and allows them to blow this year.
5 Denver Nuggets - Ty Lawson PG 6'0'' 195 22 C B B+ B- D B
After the first few picks it really becomes a preference draft, as in is there really a difference between Lawson, Collison and Holiday? Me personally I would have gone Collison over Lawson, but it's hard to argue against the championship point guard. Lawson should be able to come in and steal the starting job from incumbent point guard Tony Parker and in addition make a good run at Eva Longaria who seems pretty pissed off the days. Between Griffin and Lawson the long time powerhouse Nuggets are heading into the right direction and should be back in the playoffs soon enough. However at the end of the day we wonder what's going through Beaubois's mind because this clearly ends his future with the team probably as he is now regulated to being the third or maybe even fourth wheel.
6 New Jersey Nets - Darren Collison PG 6'1'' 165 22 C+ B- B B- D+ A
When you have such a young team the last thing you want to be without is a point guard. For the Nets team they landed one of better point guards in this draft at six, that's nice. With Collison a lot of his hype was taken away because he played with Westbrook and Holiday. People did seem to forget that he was the one leading the UCLA teams to the final fours all those times. However when looking at the Nets team, Collison probably had more talent at UCLA. The Nets are putting a lot of stock in McGee and Outlaw, two prospects that shouldn't be touted so highly according to "That Guy". However the Nets have a shit load of cap room and about 18 first round picks next year, so they should be in contention for the number one pick slugging it out with the Clippers.
7 Portland Trailblazers - DeJuan Blair PF 6'7'' 265 20 C+ D+ C- C+ B+ B
When your starting point guard is Sergio Rodriguez conventional wisdom dictates that you do something about it. However the Blazers defied logic once again, first was dealing away Joe Johnson and now they passed on a point guard to take a guy with no knees apparently. The Blazers must have loved the fact that Blair can grab down every rebound in sight because that's what Blair does. He is a brute around the rim, yet elegant like a ballerina. Blair should form a nice pair with Torres but we have to question who will lead this team. The Blazers have a ton of cap space so they will hope to land someone in free agency however this is not the most talented free agent crop.
