With a new GM in town, the Charlotte Hornets are scurrying and excited to see such a seasoned vet take the reigns for this young up and coming team. For Stever’s first act as new general manager, The Charlotte Hornets are changing name to a new and flavorful name, The Charlotte Bobcats. With the league commishiner’s approval the name change is written in stone and is completely legal.“ I think that the change of names will be a fresh start for the team, knowing that things will be different around here. Everyone in the organization knows that changes will be made, starting with the changing of name. Next will be trading some key players, adding new talent, getting more picks, and even signing some nice players in free agency.
“ I believe I can get this organization back to a competitive team that can compete in the playoffs. We may be a 500 team now but give this team, 4-5 years of experience and new faces and we’ll be in the money soon. We have some great players on the squad now, Monta is going to continue to be a star in this league, Stro and Marbury give us that veteran leadership that we need, and Iguodala is a rising up and coming youngster who will continue to grow into an all-around player.
The new GM for the Bobcats has clearly stated that players will come and go, trades will be imminent and free agents will be landed. Steve has said though that Monta Ellis is the one player right now that the team wants to build around and will not be available for trade. “ We want to build this team around Monta, he’s 21 years old and is already a standout player. The organization and myself will do all we can to build around him as much as possible. We will be an elite team in the next 4-5 years and Monta will be the guy who leads us to the promise land when we get there.
Monta Ellis stated " I'm pretty excited in the direction we are going, I love being here and hopefully we can be something big sometime soon but Steve as the GM will be a great thing for our team in the future.
Although Steve has been away for a while doing other things other than being a manager, he is destined to make this team work and be here for a while. “ I’m here for the long haul, I plan to be here for as long as the organization wants me here. I know I’ve taking over late in the season, but I’m willing to be patient with this team and will enjoy this experience that we will go through.”
