Day 22: Pacers 119 - Spurs 92[/b][/u]
After picking up a win against the Detroit Pistons to end the first month of the season, the Spurs prepared to face off against another team from the Central Division, the Indiana Pacers. Unlike the game against the Pistons, this matchup was not even close as Indiana jumped out to a quick lead and outscored their opponent in each quarter on their way to an easy 27-point victory. In the loss, the visiting Spurs only had three players in double figures with Malik Rose posting the team high of 18 points to go with 16 rebounds. As for the Pacers, they had five players in double figures with the big game coming from Kobe Bryant as he dropped 37 points in 37 minutes and Maurice Ager going for 22 points in just 28 minutes of action.
Day 23: Nets 121 - Spurs 92[/b][/u]
Coming off such a lopsided defeat, the Spurs stayed out on the road as they made their annual trip to New Jersey to face off against the Nets. The bad news for San Antonio was that they saw things go from bad to worse as this game was over early as New Jersey exploded out of the gates with a 44-28 first quarter performance. Although the home team only had four players in double figures, three of them had at least 20 points with point guard Marcus Taylor going crazy with 20 points, 17 assists, 7 rebounds, and zero turnovers. As for the visiting team, they saw five players score in double figures with shooting guard Vassilis Spanoulis leading his team with 22 points with Marcus Williams and Andrew Bynum contributing with double-doubles.
Day 25: Clippers 104 - Spurs 86[/b][/u]
With a day off to help the travel schedule, the team from the Alamo City left the east coast and headed out to the west coast for a battle against another struggling team, the Los Angeles Clippers. Perhaps feeling the fatigue of travel or the pressure of needing to win, the Spurs once again came out flat and quickly found themselves in a deficit as they eventually would lose by 18 points on the night. In a game that saw each team feature four players in double figure scoring, the home team was led by Carlos Boozer's 22 points and center Kyrylo Fesenko's 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks. As for the Spurs, they were led by Marcus Williams' game high of 26 points to go with 5 assists and 4 rebounds in the defeat.
Day 26: Jazz 103 - Spurs 93[/b][/u]
With the pressure of needing to win now continuing to mount, things were not getting any easier for the Spurs in the midst of a brutal 8-game road trip with the next stop coming in Salt Lake City to take on divisional opponent Utah. Continuing with what seems to be a common theme, the Spurs found themselves down early as they traied 27-18 at the end of the first quarter. Even though the team tried to rally, the Jazz were able to stop this short by controlling the second half on their way to victory. If there is such a thing as good news in a loss, point guard Marcus Williams was able to provide this by recording a triple-double with 18 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds (but he also had 7 turnovers). As for the Jazz, they utlizied a balanced attack with their point guard, Steve Francis, recording a team high of 23 points to go with 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
Day 28: Timberwolves 106 - Spurs 99[/b][/u]
Following their loss to the Jazz, the team had another day off before traveling up north to Minnesota for a divisional battle against the Timberwolves, a team that dominated the Spurs already this season. While the visiting Spurs were able to keep the game close, the end result was the same as before with the Wolves picking up the win and sending San Antonio falling even further down the standings. In the loss, the Spurs saw five players score at least 12 points in the loss with Marcus Williams leading the charge with his game high 30 points along with 10 assists. As for the home team, they relied on their big three of Garnett, McGrady, and Duncan, as these three superstars and future Hall of Famers combined for 75 of the team's 106 points on the night.
Day 30: Trailblazers 97 - Spurs 85[/b][/u]
Next up on what has turned into the nightmare road trip was a trip to the Rose City to face off against the Portland Trailblazers, a team that has rebuilt itself on the fly. Following a first quarter in which the teams played to a tie, the Blazers were able to assert their dominance in the middle quarters by outscoring San Antonio by a 64-45 margin. Although the Spurs tried to rally in the fourth quarter, it was too little too late as they suffered yet another defeat. In the loss, San Antonio's Marcus Williams continues his high level of play with yet another double-double, this one featuring a team high 21 points and 12 assists. However, there was not enough support to overcome Portland's balance and frontcourt play of Michael Beasley and Eddy Curry as they combined for 42 points and 23 rebounds in the victory.
