Usually in the middle of a playoff race, you would like to think that you know your teammates. However in the case for the Portland Trailblazers, this season has been one big whirlwind. It all started when Joe Johnson went to the general manager in privacy to request a trade. Once that happened the wheels were in motion and the Blazers started searching for new ways to build their team. Faced with certain challenges such as only having one player of value on their team and without their own pick this year and the following, there were sure to be ups and down this season.
However with just one sim left in the season the Blazers held a convention at the Rose Garden for teammates to meet one another, most of the new players have all uprooted from their former teams and now all converge in Portland. The team elder Brent Petway spoke. Hi Guys, currently I'm only a rookie in this league and quite frankly Ive never even seen this place, why they choose me to speak is absurd. Ive been in the D-League this entire year so I know absolutely nothing about this franchise, the players and the management. Thank, you four your time. While the speech didn't go as planned, it did serve for a nice icebreaker.
AKA B Easy AKA The Vet
They call me Michael Beasley, so call me Michael Beasley. Beasley is only eighteen years old and the sky is the limit for this one. He has an inside/outside game that takes you by surprise. Standing at 6'9 his handling is pretty good to take his defender off the dribble, he always in attack mode and models his game like that of a street player. His defense is surprisingly good for a rookie of his age. Beasley this year didn't really get a chance to play much for the Grizzlies, however with just a week left in the season he is thrown into the fire and will be the starting power forward for the Trailblazers. Beasley's talent is all about tomorrow, so we will have to wait to see how this one pans out.
AKA Iggy
It's a sad day when a twenty three year old is considered old to be in your core. However in the case of Iggy, the Blazers are hoping that he will be an outstanding glue guy to the team. His ability to play either the two or the three is helpful for this team because they're loaded at the small forward position. Iggy will be leading this team in the playoffs, yet barely knows the offense or his teammates. On top of that Iggy is looking at a pending free agency and this is a decision that could change his life. Iggy will only get a few weeks to see if he likes it in Portland, the Blazers are hoping that he will like things here because he is a big part of the future of this team.
AKA The Other Gasol
Marc Gasol is here to replace the sad player that is Dwight Howard. Gasol is almost averaging a double double every night, standing at ten rebounds and nine points a game. In only his second year Gasol is proving that he can be a serviceable center in this league during a time in which a lot of centers suck. Gasol has a legit body for this game, standing a 7'1 and weighing in at 265 he can take the pounding that the game brings. Gasol's defense is good, but the Blazers are hoping that he can improve his low post moves as well as his rebounding. The scoring for the most part is already taken care of.
AKA No I'm Not Really Gay
Rudy is another talented swing man on this team that now features so many of them. Gay's problem in life thus far has been that he has not shot enough, oddly enough. His percentages have always been ideal because of the quality of shots he does take. Gay is probably going to be an option next year and the Blazers are hoping that he can step his game up.
