1 - D.Rose, Memphis
When you got to school to play for John Calipari two things can be expected of you. The first is that you are a damn talented player and the other is that you won't be there for long. This is the case for Derrick Rose. Rose is the new age point guard, he is lightning quick, strong and can flat out score. He needs to work on his shot and learn how to facillitate the offense a little better but there not a lot of holes in his game. His game reminds us a lot of Stephon Marbury with a brain, look for Rose to be a top two pick for sure.
2 - Blake Griffin, Oklahoma
When you look at the game that Griffin brings to the table, it's hard to look away. When talking about Griffin the scouts rave about his athleticism and how well he uses his body. Griffin can get to the free throw line with the best of them because of the relentless attacks he has, he uses his fancy footwork amazing for a rookie. The only thing that might bring him back to Oklahoma is his teammate Willie Warren who share a nice bond. If Griffin does indeed declare there is no doubt in the scouts mind that he will battle for a top two pick with only Derrick Rose entering the equation. Scouts compare his game to that of Amar'e Stoudamire.
3- OJ Mayo, USC
When OJ Mayo reaches the league he is probably going to be pissed, as he is currently making more money at USC than he will in his rookie years. OJ Mayo was once dubbed the next big time prospect but has done very little to justify the hype. OJ Mayo has an SSBL body, he is able to score the ball in a myriad of ways. He has a nice shot, excellent ball handling skills and a can play either guard spot. In terms of rookies OJ comes to the league with a ready jump shot and still has ton of potential to improve. A lot of scouts are mixed on who to compare him to, but we like Ben Gordon.
4- Kevin Love, UCLA
Kevin Love has a retro feel to his game and the way he carries himself. On the low block Kevin uses his body to post up opposing defenders, has some of the softest hands around the college game as he can score with either hand. On offense Love will be a terror as each year his shot gets deeper and deeper. He has a real knock for the ball coming off the boards, he is a great passer for a big man. Scouts can rave enough about his offense ability but when talking about defense they choose to opt that rebounding is part of defense right? Scouts compare him to David Lee but a better one.
5- Danilo Gallinari, Italy
When talking about foreign prospects, the comparisons usually get out of hand. However unlike many past foreign prospects, Gallo is an established name that should be a nice player in the SSBL. Gallo comes to the league with the best shot in the draft with only Mayo giving him a run for his money, however Gallo can also dribble effectively for someone of his size. Gallo uses this size to attack the rim and gets to the line at a frequent rate. Gallo on defense is a solid man to man defender but get him down low he will give up some easy baskets. Scouts compare him to a taller Manu Ginobili.
6- Eric Gordon, Indiana
Eric Gordon is playing the wait and see approach when considering leaving Indiana. Gordon posses a quick first step that he uses to attack the rim, Gordon is quite strong for a shooting guard. He has a nice shot that extends to the SSBL three point line, another readily equipped shooter in the draft. Scouts don't like the size of Eric, but compared to the new guards in the league he might be able to get away with it. Scouts compare Gordon's game to that of a young Mitch Richmond.
7- Brook Lopez
Guys like Anthony Randolph, Russel Westbrook, Brandon Jennings might actually be better, but Lopez gets the nod because he is big and can score. However there is very little else as to what he can do, scouts are trying to combine his game with his brothers but they don't believe it will happen. Lopez has a big frame that he uses well to establish position deep down in the low post and a solid 10 foot jumper. However his rebounding prowess is almost non existent. Scouts compare his game to an eloquent Eddy Curry.
