Day 1: Rockets 101 - Spurs 98[/b]
Looking to start the season on a positive note after last year, the Spurs had the opportunity to open at home against one of their main rivals, the Houston Rockets. Feeding off the energy of the crowd early, the home team put up 40 points in the first quarter to establish a commanding lead. However, the Rockets rebounded and took control of the second half to hand the Spurs a loss in front of their fans to start the season. In the win, Houston was led by Elton Brand's 26 points in 35 minutes. As for the Spurs, the team is hoping it is not a sign of things to come as the team's big free agent, Vassilis Spanoulis, left the game with an injury. However, there were some positives as Marcus Williams led the team with 24 points and 11 assists.
Day 2: Spurs 100 - Suns 98[/b]
After losing on opening night, the Spurs looked to rebound as they welcomed the Phoenix Suns, and their former point guard Mike Bibby, to town. Using a 27-11 second quarter run, San Antonio was able to gain the lead and hold off a late Phoenix surge to earn their first win of the season. While the Suns had five players in double figures, they were led by an overall performance of Mike Bibby with his 24 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals. In the victory, the home team also had five players in double figures as Charlie Villanueva led the team with 21 points with Marcus Williams just missing a triple-double in the battle against his former mentor as he went for 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists while logging 39 minutes of action.
Day 3: Spurs 109 - Warriors 91[/b]
With their record evened up at 1-1, the team hoped to finish their three game homestand with a winning record as they welcomed the Golden State Warriors to the Alamo City. Following a sluggish first quarter, the Spurs were able to turn things around to gain the lead heading into the locker room on their way to controlling the second half and emerging with the victory. Even though the visiting Warriors featured a balanced attack with their recent signing Linas Kleiza leading them with 20 points, it was not enough to overcome the dominating performance of San Antonio's frontcourt. The trio of Andrew Bynum, Emeka Okafor, and Charlie Villanueva all registered double-doubles as they combined for 77 points and 39 rebounds in the win.
Day 6: Hawks 90 - Spurs 83[/b]
After recording a 2-1 record to start the year, the Spurs enjoyed a couple of days off before hitting the road for a pair of games. First up on the list was the team's annual trip to Atlanta to take on the Hawks. While the visiting Spurs were able to gain a narrow lead early, the Hawks countered to gain the lead with the difference in the game coming in the third quarter where the visiting team was held to just 9 points. In the loss, San Antonio only had three players record in double figures with Emeka Okafor leading the squad with 22 points and 11 rebounds. In the win, Atlanta was led by Antoine Walker's double-double of 31 points and 10 rebounds.
Day 7: Spurs 94 - Kings 81[/b]
Staying out on the road, the team made their first trip west on the year as they headed off to Sacramento to take on a new look Kings team with one time San Antonio superstar Tracy McGrady. Keeping with what seems to be an early season theme of tough games, the visiting Spurs were able to use a couple of key runs in the game to emerge with their first road win of the team. In a matchup where each team only had three players break double figures, Sacramento was led by McGrady's 25 points. In the win, the Spurs saw three players post double-doubles with center Andrew Bynum leading the team with a big game of 27 points and 16 rebounds while Marcus Williams continued his hot start with 14 points, 12 assists, and 7 rebounds.
Day 8: Spurs 82 - Bulls 77[/b]
After splitting a pair of games out on the road, the team headed back to the Alamo City for three more games in front of their fans. First up on the schedule were the Chicago Bulls, a team coming off a very tough offseason. Looking to take advantage of the situation, the Spurs were able to control the fourth quarter to emerge with the win. In the loss, the Bulls had four players in double figures with Shelden Williams going for 14 points and 13 rebounds against Emeka Okafor. As for the winning team, they had five players in double figures with both Andrew Bynum and Marcus Williams posting double-doubles of their own as Emeka Okafor led the team with 17 points.
Day 10: Lakers 115 - Spurs 105[/b]
The good news for San Antonio was that Vassilis Spanoulis was back in the starting lineup to play his second game of the year. The bad news for the team though was that the Los Angeles Lakers came to town and took care of business as they set the tone very early with a 43-25 first quarter performance. Using their star power, the Lakers saw five players in double figures with Dirk Nowitzki dropping 29 points before fouling out. However, the talk after the game was of Xue Yuyang as he dropped 25 points on a perfect shooting night (10-10 from the field, 3-3 from beyond the arc, and 2-2 from the line). In the loss, the Spurs had four players score at least 12 points with Marcus Williams going for a triple-double with 23 points, 12 assists and...10 turnovers.
