Zero to hero back to Zero
The fans of Phoenix were anxiously awaiting 12:00 to come on the clock, in fact they had a countdown in most bars. All the talk was about how Arenas was going to resign and continue growing with the young Suns teams that includes Granger, Howard, Jin and Duhon. Everything was set for a potential deep playoff team to be born, however that's when the fatal news came in. Suddenly across the bottom of the TV with the breaking news, the fans started to cheer. The bartender even lined up the shots of tequila to be downed upon the news of Gilbert resigning. The Vancouver Grizzlies sign SG Gilbert Arenas for $81,562,500 over 6 years. The place was dead silent as no one wanted to believe the report that they had just read. How could this even be possible? Gilbert is turning down 23 million dollars just to get out of Phoenix? Gilbert is leaving the core of Phoenix to join the likes of Sofo? However the biggest and most popular thought of the night was how was this FUCKING CANADIAN TEAM KEEP STEALING OUR PLAYERS? First it was Jason Kidd and now years later it was Gilbert Arenas. The one time popular player in Phoenix was now public enemy number one.
The career averages of 24/5/4 will now join the Grizzlies in which he teams up with the big man Sofo, the underwhelming Chris Bosh and the overlooked Mo Williams. The Grizz still have a long way to go before they really compete, however today the sped up the process exponentially. We just have to wonder what is the allure of Vancouver is and how do they always come up with the Suns free agents? I look for them to not waste anymore cap space and take Dwight Howard next year to team up with Gilbert and become the team that Phoenix once was supposed to become.
Wow Melo leaves, big shocker.
This tale doesn't have a tragic ending like the one in Phoenix, but a tale of a player who played out his final season knowing it would be his last in Chicago. The talks of championships was to much for Melo to handle, some say that he could never escape the shadow of Michael Jordan, that the pressue was to much for one man. Carmelo Anthony entertained the idea of returning to Chicago, but everyone that had a brain realized that he was as good as gone. They were just hoping that he would at least leave the division. However he decided to go to the location in America in which he would have the least amount of pressure, Milwaukee. When the fans heard the news that Melo signed with them, most assumed it was a joke. This is a franchise that never gets the big name, however they finally did it. All of a sudden a team with young talent just landed one of the biggest free agents that was out there. Meanwhile the fans in Chicago are never debating whether it's time to rebuild as their best player is Ray Allen and not getting any younger. They have some solid youth in Shelden Williams and Adam Morrison, but they wont be winning anything anytime soon.
Now the Bucks look to be loaded with young talent as Melo teams up with one of the best rookies from last year Andrea Bargnani. Young talents like Marvin Williams, Kevin Martin and Luol Deng now all become trade bait to upgrade the fire power on this team. They could potentially be a legit point guard away from really making some noise in the Eastern Conference. If Karaulov can step up his game a little more, we could be looking at one of the sleeper teams in the conference.
