The SSBL Times is back with another exciting issue. In this issue we will be looking at the race for the 2006-2007 ROY. The ROY trophy is a big honor since it usually propels players to bigger and better things. We will profile five candidates. We like to keep our opinions biased, but a good debate amongst league GMs never hurt either. Like the MVP Watch, we will update this every so often throughout the season. Added to this years articles is a tracker of how many Rookie of the Month honors a player has received.

ROY Candidates
Monta Ellis SG Charlotte Hornets
Andrea Bargnani PF Milwaukee Bucks
Brandon Roy SG Sacramento Kings
Rajon Rondo PG Cleveland Cavaliers
Randy Foye PG Utah Jazz
Monta Ellis SG Charlotte Hornets
06-07 stats: 20.3ppg 4.0rpg 3.1apg 2.0spg
Ellis, taken first overall is showing no signs of tough times in SSBL. He is the team leader in points. He was a great pickup by Charlotte, as he is the future of this team. The Hornets are struggling, but Ellis keeps giving it his all game in and game out.
Andrea Bargnani PF Milwaukee Bucks
06-07 stats: 20.0ppg 8.0rpg 1.2bpg
Bargnani, the best big in the 06 draft has helped a bunch in Milwaukee. He is leading the team in scoring and is a big obstacle downlow. Bargnani should be a final contender for the ROY.
Brandon Roy SG Sacramento Kings
06-07 stats: 17.1ppg 5.6rpg 3.8apg 1.3spg
The Kings literally stole Roy in the draft. He was seen as a top selection, but somehow fell a few spots. He was seen as a big time scorer, but has not lived up yet. He is a nice piece for the Kings, even if they are struggling this season. His chances of winning ROY are not as good as most though at draft time.
Rajon Rondo PG Cleveland Cavaliers
06-07 stats: 11.0ppg 5.4rpg 8.2apg 2.1spg
Rondo was the best PG in the draft, and so far is playing up to his regards. He isn't known as a scorer, but his defense and assists should land him in the final running for ROY. He has helped the Cavs a ton this season, so far.
Randy Foye PG Utah Jazz
06-07 stats: 16.7ppg 7.0apg 1.5spg
The strong, and surprising play of Foye has helped the Jazz become a middle of the pack team. This was not a scene we saw last season. Foye was a middle of the round pick, but has played like a top 5 pick. He had a good camp and has adjusted pretty well to the big leagues. He may not edge out Rondo for the best guard in the class, but is close.
The ROY race looks to be a good one, but stay tuned and see how the season unfolds for these young prospects.
