Notes
Steve Francis PG 22 6'3'' 200 Maryland Jr B C+ B- C+ C- A
Steve Francis is a prolific scoring guard from Maryland. He's very quick and can score in a variety of ways. Fearless to the rim and has a decent mid-range shot that extends to the 3pt line at times. He's got great handle, but needs to cut down on his turnovers. Also needs to focus on defense more in the pro's.
Baron Davis PG 20 6'2'' 190 UCLA Soph B- C+ C+ B- C A
Baron Davis is a good combo guard with some good PG skills. It's debatable if he should be picked higher than Francis or not. Davis, I'd say, is the stronger of the two and a better defender. He's also more likely to chuck up a 3 than Francis, and his mid-range game is decent. However, his knee could be of some concern, as he blew it out during his freshman year (last year). But he has recovered from the injury and has been having an excellent sophomore year at UCLA. Baron also has a nice handle, but shuld work on his passing game if he wants to make it as a PG and not an undersized SG in this league.
Andre Miller PG 23 6'2'' 205 Utah Sr B- C B+ B- C B
Andre Miller is a safe pick at PG. Great handle and is hand-down the best passer of the class. Has a sky-high basketball IQ and is a smart defender too. The outside game is lacking though. Not really a threat from 3pt range, although can knock down jumpers off the dribble at times. Uses his size and strength to his advantage, often backing down smaller guards on the block. Could be a steal in this draft depending on the Wildcard.
Igor Rakocevic PG 21 6'3" 180 Serbia C+ C+ C+ C D+ A
See notes for Igor Rakocevic in the
Foreign Prospects thread.
William Avery PG 20 6'2'' 185 Duke Soph C B- B- C C- A
William Avery from Duke is a very raw guard who could benefit from staying in college for another year or 2. I have a feeling he'll be one of those players who's college game may not transpire to the Pro's. He's very quick and can knock down open jumpers, but doesn't get to the rim too often and needs to work on his handling and passing. Defense is a concern as well, as he is often committing on steals, but that can be worked on. A project for-sure, and can surprise many if given the chance though.
Anthony Carter PG 24 6'1" 190 Hawaii Sr C C+ B B C- B
Anthony Carter played bball in the beautiful state of Hawaii. While there, he attended alot of luau's and got lei'd a bunch of times, but also developed into a decent PG. He is a good passer, although he doesn't thread the needle too often. Turnovers may a bit of a concern, as he likes to push the tempo at times. Not a prolific scorer but can knock down open 3's. I wouldn't classify him as a defensive specialist, but he is a smart defender, often pressing the opposing PG in the backcourt leading to traps and forcing turnovers. I'm not sure he'll ever be a star, but a servicable backup, more than likely.
Chucky Atkins PG 25 5'11" 165 South Florida alum C B- B C+ D C
Chucky Atkins can hit open shots and handle the ball pretty well. Decent passer. Not too quick. Defense is alright, needs some work. Short stature is a reason he doesn't rebound very well. He'll be happy being someone's backup in SSBL for sure.
Milt Palacio PG 21 6'4" 205 Colorado St Sr C+ B- B- C C- B
Milt Palacio was a good college player. Decent scorer inside and out. Inconsistent 3pt shot, but solid mid-range shot. Quick guard, but PG play needs work. Not a great defender at all. Needs to use his height to his advantage, a la Andre Miller and backing down smaller guards.
Chris Herren PG 24 6'2'' 201 Fresno State Sr C B+ C C D+ B
Chris Herren, another Fresno St. product, is a lights out shooter. All other aspects of his game need work though, including shot-selection. Played majority SG with Alston last year, stepped in as the PG this year. Not very quick. Handles and passing are alright. Defense is a concern.
Vonteego Cummings PG 23 6'1'' 190 Pittsburgh Sr B- C B- B- D+ B
Vonteego Cummings quick guard who can get to the rim at will. Solid handle, not a gifted passer, solid defender and makes good decisions with the basketball. Size may be a concern, and if the potential is there he could also be a steal in the draft.
John Celestand PG 22 6'4 178 Villanova Sr C+ B C C+ C- C
John Celestand was a good scorer at Nova but we'll see if his game can translate here. Good size, posseses a good mid/long range shot. Not a great passer and needs to cut down his turnovers. And once again, another case of "defense needs improvement".
