Discuss some Blues music, your favorites, the classics, the newbies of the genre etc.
I just heard an Aerosmith cover of Mississippi Fred McDowell's "You gotta move" today on the Blues show on NPR, and it was one of those songs where you just felt so tiny in a huge sea of wonderful sound.
Amazing riffs, shredding electric guitars, even more incredible breakdowns and of course it wouldn't be complete without steven tylers seismic voice screaming. Best Aerosmith song I've heard, and best Blues song cover I've heard in a very very long time.
If you can download music, and you love the blues you need to hear -

Depends on what kind of music you like now..
If you're a fan of R&B/Hip-Hop you'll be into the be-bop of chicago blues.
If you like Rock and Roll, Jazz and swing, you'll be more attracted to the Memphis Blues.
My suggestion is to start with something more mainstream and easy to listen to, Tom Petty for instance. After he starts to grow on you, and you find the exact sound you enjoy most, you can pursue more of that sound.
So I'd say listen to some Tom Petty first and find what you like.
Then as you move along, Chicago Blues artists include Muddy Waters, BB King and Buddy Guy (the more well known artists)
Mississippi artists include Howlin Wolf, which was the only big artist to come out really.. Most were the generic banjo, creekside types. I'm personally a fan of Chicago and Detroit blues, the loud bass booming style.

Not a fan of Aerosmith. Wouldn't consider them Blues by any means, not to mention Steven Tyler is a jackass.
Real Blues, you start with Robert Johnson, and then you work your way through the years with the three Kings, then to the Elvis, which he pretty much had every song as a 12 bar blues.
Then to The Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Clapton/Cream/Blind Faith/Yardbirds...skip the 80's blues except Stevie Ray pretty much, and now there are The White Stripes, Black Keys, and some other bands that are playing great blues music.

I'm not a fan of aerosmith either, but that song just kicked my ass because it was such a great cover.
I absolutely love the white stripes, I actually watched a movie last night and thought to myself, where the hell they went.. I know the Raconteurs is a big name lately, I guess that could be the answer.

If you get the chance, watch "It Might Get Loud" with Jimmy Page and Jack White (The Edge is in it too, but he's a douchebag, and u2 sucks.) It's sick seeing Jack and Jimmy playing though...really really cool.

I'll definitely have to watch this movie. I'm a huge fan of White, and Page has always been an anomaly for myself.
On a second note, I think Edge was pretty crucial with his involvement in U2, arguably one of the most influential rock bands throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's - paving the way for bands such as Muse and the Killers, two of my favorites. Using the experimental sound is really what created most popular rock bands in this era...
So while people may dislike the faces, characters, portrayals - the music is undoubtedly very important.

Never been a fan of U2. Rather have Joy Division and The Smiths personally, but opinions are opinions.
