Two glaring needs that need to be addressed by Gm Moosey are the point guard and small forward positions. With the New York Knicks currently bottom feeders in the SSBL this year, the gm set out to scout some of the best talent available in the upcoming draft. In this interview with the GM, he reveils his mindset come draft time. He mentions four possible targets come seasons end that fulfill the aformentioned needs.
"Chris Paul looks like your typical franchise point guard. He does everything. He makes everyone around him better. Even on a mediocre college team, he's making average players looke like NBA prospects. The way he is playing right now, he could carry them deep into the march tournament. Any NBA team would take this guy, even if they have a good point guard right now. He's a cant miss prospect."
A top SSBL scot was asked whether his skills would transfer to the SSBL, and he replied " there's no doubt in my mind he will be an all star for years to come. He excels at making players around him better. He will always find the right player at the right time for the easy bucket. Chris is unselfish and even plays defense when most players his caliber don't. He has a smooth stroke from mid range and can bang with the bodies down low. He's never afraid to take the ball to the hole, draw contact and take the and 1. He could improve his strength and 3 point shooting, but he is an SSBL ready pg."
"Deron Williams is the same as Chris Paul, any team lucky enough to draft him will have a future franchise point guard on their hands for years to come. He excels at making players around him better. He is a better scorer than Chris according to most scouts, although Chris is the better guard. A lot of scouts opinions differ however as the difference between the two is so small. When it comes draft time, most teams will have a tough time placing them one, two."
"According to the same scout we asked earlier, "Chris comes ahead of Deron only because they do the same things well, but Chris is your better all around point guard. He is a veteran floor general without even playing an SSBL game. Many believe Deron will get there, but Chris is already there. The sky is the limit for both, but Chris has a little bit more upside in my opinion."
"Danny Granger looks like your typical Small Forward for the SSBL. Not necessairly an annual all star but a solid player that will help any team. He scores well, defends well and rebounds well. It's just a matter of finding a home for him at the next level. Many believe he'll be a small forward. But injury concerns could slow him down and his quickness could place him at the power forward position where many feel he'll struggle. Personally I feel he'll be a good small forward for years to come. Any team that lands him will be happy."
"A top college scout for an SSBL team had nothing but good things to say about Danny Granger. He's your typical good at everything but special at nothing player that gets over looked by every team. Teams are looking for that player that becomes the next best thing, however sometimes you need a guy that can do it all to birng a chamionship home. Give me 3 Danny Grangers, an average point guard and a defensive specialist center and I guarantee I win a championship within 5 years!"
"Rudy Gay is a bit of an enigma. One day, he'll look a sure fire top three selection, the next he'll look like he should be staying in school to develop his game. Personally I see him staying in school for another year to develop the mentality of a go to player. However I feel the money will drive him into the draft. I have no idea where to place him really. As the draft nears I feel teams will have him all over their draft boards. Any team taking him is taking a huge risk, but he's a high risk, high reward type player. I can see a team later on in the lottery taking a gamble on him. We'll bring him in for a workout, but where we stand he needs to amaze us with a pre draft workout to slide him up on our board."
"One high ranking scout described Rudy as the second coming, "I disagree with Moosey a hundred percent. Rudy is a star player waiting to break out. His game translates exceptionally well to the SSBL, the college game is limiting his ability to show his true talent. His athleticism is off the charts. I see him being a rookie of the year candidate of the start depending on the opporutinity given to him, all he needs is the right situation".
"Another scout had the opposite to say, " Rudy is your typical talented player that just dont not give a flying you know what. He crumbles during crunch time and would rather defer than go for it. He'd rather give up the last shot to a teammate than take it himself. He's Nothing better than a robin to your batman." Anyway you look at it, Rudy Gay is a solid player, We'll find out in time if it translates to the SSBL. It depends on the situation and Rudy himself if he becomes a bonafide all star."
Moosey concluded our interview by saying, " We have two glaring weaknesses as we stand, Point guard and Small forward. We have Rip Hamilton, Emeka Okarfor and Amare Stoudemire fulfilling the Shooting guard, power forward and center poisitons for years to come. This is our base that we will look to build around. We also have Rashard Lewis, Sammy Dalembert as well as rookies Delonte West and Vassilis Spanoulisis of the bench. Our future looks good but we are lacking in two big positions. We've sent scouts out all over the NCAA and overseas to do our due diligence. Dream scenario would be to land two of the players mentioned above, but that looks like a distant dream, One of the four would make me an ecstatic human come draft time, but its too early to tell. As for now, the organization will continue doing its part in hoping to land a franchise player to go along with its core that has been extablished so far.
