When Kenyon Martin signed his six year sixty million dollar deal with the Blazers, he had to figure things would be a lot different. He and his agent tried to convince themselves that going to a team like the Blazers would yield good stats because of the up tempo system, however it has become the sad case of Kenyon Martin who doesn't have an outside shot.
Kenyon Martin once upon a time was an option for the Utah Jazz, then the general manager that believed in him was axed. Once upon a time Kenyon would be featured on offense and he would be allowed to display his razzle and dazzle along the baseline. However those days are long gone since he made his move from Utah to Portland. The home of the trigger happy fingers of Joe Johnson, Peja and now Steve Francis.
Kenyon still til this day believes that he made the right choice but believes that his talents would be better suited for another team in the league. Any team that would run a balanced or inside focus would love me man, I mean I got A- insides and can block shots. While on paper that should be appealing, most people don't lost past his stats which have gotten smaller this year. No longer an option for the Blazers he is forced to collect the garbage points. Martin can be an effective player in this league and is only entering his prime.
Lately Kenyon's agent has been exploring trades for his client and decided to ask the professionals for help. He has brought in Don Draper as the man to spearhead his efforts to get traded. Don Draper has never met a problem he couldn't solve, but he even admits Kenyon will be a problem. The average American only looks at stats to gauge someone's worth, never looking into the way or how they got to that situation. That's where I come in.
My client is only 27 years old and is locked up to a reasonable contract for the next six years including this one. Kenyon is 6'8 and can play either the power forward position or the center position. If utilized even slightly correctly, his numbers would go up. It's hard to run a set offense when your teammates only shoot three pointers all game long and I swear if there was a four pointer Joe Johnson would be the first one to shoot it. All I'm asking you to do is look at the man, you can see that he is hungry to get back to dominating basketball, something that can't happen in Portland.
