Channing Frye PF 6'11'' 248 22 B- C+ D+ B- C A
Very impressive skillset as a power forward have earned him comparisons to Sam Perkins. Long arms have helped make him a good shot blocker. Very athletic and lean. Shot better than 54 percent from the field in all four of his seasons at Arizona, averaging more than 15 points and seven rebounds in each of his last two years. Has great range on his jumpshot for a bigman, and can easily make the pro 3. Because of his body type, long and lean, he has trouble with positioning in the post for rebounds. He will get them, but won't dominate by any means.
David Lee PF 6'9'' 249 22 B- C C- C B B
Probably the most offensively talented post player in the draft. Lee excels in scoring using his soft hands and incredible IQ. Needs to work on defense considerable, and is not a very good shot blocker. Incredible nose for the ball, both offensively and defensively. Uses a great work ethic to out hustle his opponents for rebounds and loose balls. Does a great job creating second chance points for his team and is also a master of the putback. While his strength and speed are above average, he is not known to have much of a vertical leap. Should have no problem becoming a great scorer in the SSBL.
Jason Maxiell PF 6'7'' 260 22 C+ D D- B- B- B
Ability to block or change shots helped Cincinnati rank among the nation's leaders in field-goal percentage defense. Averaged 15.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks his senior season. Plays taller than he is. Not an explosive jumper, but his wingspan allows him to alter shots. Very aggressive and usually plays harder than anyone on the floor. Runs the court well for a player with his bulk and loves to dunk. Does not have a jumpshot, and can't handle the ball effectively. His biggest knock is his conditioning, as well as his age and competition level so far.
Ronny Turiaf PF 6'10'' 250 22 C+ D+ D+ B+ C+ B
Averaged 16.1 points and 9.3 rebounds, was the West Coast Conference Player of the Year, and led Gonzaga to a No. 10 ranking in the final AP poll. Strong, holds his position on the block well and uses an aggressive streak to draw fouls and rebound. Good shot-blocker, averaged 1.9 per game as a senior. Must develop his repertoire on offense. Struggles to finish around the basket. Doesn't have a polished post-up move. Despite being an active player, has not been a good offensive rebounder. Struggles with inconsistency and has yet to live up to his potential.
Wayne Simien PF 6'9'' 255 22 C+ D+ D+ B- B B
Durability has to be the biggest concern after he suffered injuries each of the last three seasons, causing him to miss an extended period of time. Has an SSBL body and is aggressive, especially when rebounding. Strength and toughness are unquestioned. Post-up game is limited. Gets many of his points on offensive rebounds or by overpowering smaller players. Has soft mid-range jumper. Not a very good shot-blocker. Averaged 20.3 points and 11.0 rebounds as a senior.
Sean May PF 6'9'' 266 21 B- D+ D C+ C+ B
Averaged 17.5 and 10.7 rebounds overall in 2004-05. Combines strength and bulk with smarts in getting position in the paint, and is tough to move once he's found his spot under the basket. Has excellent hands and does a good job catching passes inside. Possesses good instincts and hustles; is quick to hit the floor and dive into the stands for loose balls. Rebounding average demonstrates his hard work, and is a solid defender with quick feet. Not a great athlete, and height could be a concern in the SSBL. Keeping weight down has also been a battle for him throughout college career.
Ike Diogu PF 6'8'' 250 22 C+ D+ F+ C+ C+ B
Lack of height could be a problem in the SSBL, and some scouts fear he has a limited upside, especially after poor performance with the U.S. team at the Pan Am Games. Scored in double digits in every collegiate game he played. Talented post-up player with good strength and a 7-foot-4 wingspan. Has good knack for drawing fouls, and made nearly 80 percent of his free throws as a junior while leading the Pac-10 with 22.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.
Chris Taft PF 6'10'' 260 20 C+ D D- C B- B
Got by on athleticism and size in college, but needs focus and work on offensive game in order to excel against SSBL big men. Tremendous physical gifts, but averaged only 13.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per gae last season. Long reach and leaping ability make him a great rebounder, but doesn't always hustle. Runs floor very well and gets plenty of baskets in transition. Uses size to his advantage in the paint, but lacks strong go-to move in the post. Very unmotivated player, and some have said he has a terrible attitude.
Lawrence Roberts PF 6'9'' 245 23 C+ D+ D C+ C+ BStrong post player with good hands that excels when the game is on the line. Has good athleticism but needs to work on quickness, free-throw shooting and shot-blocking. Transferred after two years at Baylor and developed into a force for Mississippi State, averaging 16.9 points and a Southeastern Conference-leading 11.0 rebounds in his senior season. Can run the floor and has good strength. Lacks perimeter skills and isn't much of an outside scorer, ball-handler or face-up shooter.
Shavlik Randolph PF 6'10'' 240 22 C C- D+ B- C+ BWas a linchpin for Coach K at Duke, and is a bonafide hustler. Always goes for loose balls and is great at drawing the offensive foul. Constantly giving up his body for the good of the team. Doesn't have an offensive game, but does play a huge role in the offense itself setting picks and rebounding.
Kyle Luckett PF 7'0'' 225 20 C+ C C- C+ B- BRelatively unknown player. Has good height but needs to add size and strength. Is a good rebounder and has pretty good range on his jumpshot, but despite his long arms, doesn't block many shots.
Robert Whaley PF 6'9'' 230 23 B- C- D+ B- C+ CQuick feet and quick hands. Excels on defense and has a polished inside game. His size could be a determining factor on how well he translates his skills to the pro-level. Some say he will have trouble matching up with stronger forwards, yet is not quick enough to guard the smaller ones. Is probably as good as he will get.
Tim Parham PF 6'9'' 240 22 C C+ D+ C C+ CTim Parham should probably finish school and pursue a career in that field of study. Does not possess any skills needed by a SSBL post player. No offensive game, does not play defense, and is constantly being outworked for the rebound. If anyone chooses Parham, it's because he's their nephew.
