In this edition of the SSBL Times we will look at picks 14-28 this time around. The draft isnt all that deep so snagging a solid player is key in the first round. We will take into place the team's needs as well as their current record. The lottery has not happened so theses picks are being made solely on where the teams stand as of today. We will include players the teams drafted last year, first round only.
14. Toronto Raptors (via Charlotte)
Record: 27-55
Player(s) drafted last year: Dwayne Wade, Kendrick Perkins (traded this season)
Team Needs: PF, C
The Raptors own 3 more first round picks and here is the next one. if they pick Jefferson has the previous mock stated look for them to go big again. They can use Jefferson at the 5 and select a PF here. The bets choice in our eyes is Brazilian Anderson Varejao. Varejao can defend very well and will be a nice compliment to Jefferson down low.
Projected Selection; PF Anderson Varejao
15. Washington Wizards
Record: 40-42
Players(s) drafted last year: No picks
Team Needs: SF, C
The Wizards are only a few pieces away form being a more complete team. they have some veterans on the roster who are nearing their end, so filling that void is top priority for this team. Look for the Wizards to look in a couple directions. Moving Villanueva to PF is one of many things this team can do.
Projected Selection: SF Travis Outlaw
16. Toronto Raptors (via Detroit)
Record: 27-55
Player(s) drafted last year: Dwayne Wade, Kendrick Perkins (traded this season)
Team Needs: Depth
Up again are the Raptors. they fill their downlow needs. they could add more depth with the remaining two picks they own in th first round. BPA is the way they could go here..
Projected Selection: PG Shaun Livingston
17. Seattle Supersonics (via Indiana)
Record: 42-40
Player(s) selected last year: Ben Gordon
Team Needs: SG, PF
Sonics need depth at any position. BPA is where they should go here.
Projected Selection: PF Kris Humphries
18. New Jersey Nets
Record: 44-38
Player(s) selected last year: Gerald Wallace
Team Needs: Depth
The Nets are a loaded team. They may look to draft BPA here or even trade the pick.
Projected Selection: PG Beno Udrih
19. Toronto Raptors (Denver Nuggets)
Record: 27-55
Player(s) drafted last year: Dwayne Wade, Kendrick Perkins (traded this season)
Team Needs: Depth
Up again are the Raptors. They have filled their downlow needs. BPA is the way they could go here..
Projected Selection: SF Dorell Wright
20. Phoenix Suns (via Dallas)
Record: 20-62
Players(s) drafted last year: Gilbert Arenas
Team Needs: PG, SF, PF, C
The Suns own 2 more 1st round picks and should be able to help their team out alot via the draft. Look for them to address the needs of a PG or SF here.
Projected Selection: PG Blake Stepp
21. Minnesota Timberwolves (via San Antonio)
Record: 62-20
Player(s) selected last year: Nikoloz Tskitishvili (traded this season), Steve Blake, Boris Diaw
Team Needs: SG Depth, PF Depth
The Wolves should be able to find a nice prospect here. Look for them to add some help at the SG and PF spot.
Projected Selection: SG Delonte West
22. Cleveland Cavaliers (via Milwaukee)
Record: 19-63
Player(s) drafted last year: Luke Ridnour, Josh Howard, Chris Wilcox, Sofoklis Schortsanitis
Team Needs: C, SF
After landing Howard, so we project, look for the Cavs to get some more perimeter help. They could go foreign here and leave a guy overseas ala Sofo.
Projected Selection; SG Kirk Snyder
23. Philadelphia 76ers (via Orlando)
Record: 32-50
Player(s) selected last year: Kyle Korver
Team Needs: PG, C
The 76ers GM has made it clear that he wants to rebuild this team into a younger franchise. There are some young pieces on the team, but not enough to compete, even in the East. A glaring hole on this team is at the PG spot. We project the 76ers to nab a PG with their earlier selection and think they could go PG again since depth is important too.
Projected Selection: PG Andre Barrett
24. Detroit Pistons (via Atlanta)
Record: 43-39
Player(s) selected last year: Leandro Barbosa
Team Needs: Depth
The Pistons can go anywhere with this selection. They need some frontocurt help badly.
Projected Selection: PF Brandon Bass
25. Los Angeles Clippers
Record: 50-32
Player(s) selected last year: No picks
Team Needs: BPA
The Clippers are a solid team. look for them to take the best player on the board when their pick comes up.
Projected Selection: PF Jamal Sampson
26. Sacramento Kings
Record: 52-30
Player(s) selected last year: Charlie Villanueva (traded this season)
Team Needs: SG, BPA
The Kings will go BPA here. They need some more scoring help off the bench.
Projected Selection: SG Sasha Vujacic
27. Phoenix Suns (via Memphis)
Record: 20-62
Players(s) drafted last year: Gilbert Arenas
Team Needs: PG, SF, PF, C
The Suns are up one more time this round. BPA is the way to go this late.
Projected Selection: SF Ryan Gomes
28. Los Angeles Lakers
Record: 53-29
Player(s) selected last year: no picks
Team Needs: BPA
BPA is the way to go for the Lakers. They also could go the foreign route here.
Projected Selection: SF Sergei Monia
29. Golden State Warriors (via Minnesota)
Record: 45-37
Player(s) selected last year: Kirk Hinrich, Chris Kaman, Maciej Lampe
Team Needs: SG, PF
The Warriors snag a first by sending cash to Cleveland. Look for them to try and find a steal this late.
Projected Selection: C David Harrison
