The 2003 SSBL All Star Weekend is upon us and with that we will take a look at who is worthy of being a SSBL All Star.
The opinions in this article are strictly that, opinions. If you feel the need to complain about it, you can email us at wedontgive2shits@crybabycentral.org
We will take a look at the point guard class for the Eastern Conference first.
Eastern Conference
Projected Starter
Stephon Marbury New Jersey Nets
current stats: 25.9ppg 10.1apg 1.6spg 3.3tpg
Taking a look at the East PGs, may will wonder if they can even put together a full list of eligible PGs. Marbury is above most PGs in the East, but does that say alot? Marbury finds himself in the top 10 in assists, but the only one from the East in the top 9. Marbury is clearly the top choice to start for the East. He turns the ball over too much, but still deserves the honor. Stephon is the team leader on the Nets and has helped them to be a top team in the East. Anyone have a cookie?
Other PG options
Gary Payton Atlanta Hawks
current stats: 19.9ppg 8.9apg 3.2spg 3.7tpg
Payton is the only solid contender to dethrone Marbury as the best East PG. He leads the league in steals at a gawdy 3.2 clip. He is the general of a very solid Hawks club, but will the voters look at that when they vote? He turns the ball over more then most, and that may be his only downfall. He is a veteran, and his years in the league are dwindling.
Mike Bibby Indiana Pacers
current stats: 14.4ppg 7.6apg 2.3spg 3.2tpg
Bibby is a long shot to make the All-Star team. Bibby is a young PG, but is overshadowed by the before mentioned PGs. Bibby has progressed since being drafted and only looks to be better. He may be a year or two away before he is nominated as an All-Star.
