Here at the Golden State Gazette we do not promote violence. We promote good sportsmanship and a positive attitude. We love watching our Warriors play night in and night out. Word is that Latrell Sprewell and the Warriors may be choking the life out of..the competition now. Sprewell is a tough cookie to crack. Is GM Williams nuts for taking on this headcase?
League sources have told us that the Warriors have acquired troubled scorer Latrell Sprewell. The Warriors struck a deal with the Chicago Bulls that will see Sprewell make a return to California. Sprewell will give a bust to the scoring load rightly so each game.
Taking a look at what Sprewell has done this season,. the fans have good things to look forward to. Teaming up with Jamison and Hughes should make the Warriors big 3 a tough group to beat each night. Sprewell shores up the SF position that has been a glaring weakness for the warriors all season long.
As a Bull, Sprewell did many good things. He was the 2nd option on the team and still managed to pour in over 22 pts per game. GM Williams liked that about Latrell and hopes he can only boost those numbers as the #1 option on the squad. Sprewell will be the veteran on this young squad. Sprewell could play well enough for the Warriors to take a glance at his contract once the off-season hits. Free Agency is a question mark thus far, so look for the Warriors to really make a hard push at keeping Sprewell if the crop of SFs is weak.
The Warriors currently sit 5th out West. The West has always been known as a tough conference. this year the West is superior in many ways over the East. If Golden State was an Eastern Conference team, they would be the #1 team. How bizarre. The Warriors have always knocked on the playoff door and finally have kicked it wide open. They recently defeated the current SSBL champion Bucks by 30 points, all without Sprewell.
Latrell Sprewell has had a troubled past, but GM Williams hopes that he can coincide with the younger players and make this team a serious contender for the SSBL championship.
Let's take a closer look at the entire deal between the Bulls and Warriors.
The Warriors sent expiring contracts of Kyle Hill and JaRon Rush. They also will send their 04 1st round pick. Many may wonder why the Warriors front office chose to trade a pick away for an expiring Sprewell. GM Williams is not focusing on the draft like previous years. he is in a win now state of mind and feels the team is much stronger than years past. Hill is being traded from the Warriors for the second time this season. He was non used player who only made the roster due to his expiring contract. Rush was acquired from Atlanta in a previous deal. Rush was competing for the starting SF spot, but just couldn't stick. The 2004 1st is currently a late 20's pick, and the Warriors feel they are better off with going after some free agents than relying on more youth to contend.
The Warriors are headed in the right direction. Time will tell if they can be a top 3 team out West. Should GM Williams be considered for GM of the 2003 season? We are starting to think he just might.
