A revitalized GM has set the Clippers up for a new look. The last couple of seasons it has been the Candyman and Miller show with others contributing on a team effort. The team in order to win had to slow it down because there were not the scorers to keep up. The team going into FA already has a new look. Miller is gone and it is under debate if the Candyman will be back.
Center: Lorenzen Wright has gone from buried in the roster to power forward, but more naturally fits at Center. If Candyman is gone he will start at Center. He is a solid defender and a superior rebounder.
Powerforward: Eddie Griffin already is a solid defender and rebounder. The team have special assistants who are helping him improve his scoring which has a lot of potential.
Small forward: Quentin Richardson will likely get the nod here although Battier will get a strong look as well and should get a lot of playing time at both forward positions. The team likes the defense and scoring punch this frontline as a whole should provide.
Shooting guard: Flip Murray will get a strong look here although it is possible q-rich could slide back down or a FA will be brought in. If one of those two are the case it is hoped that Flip will get his 25 plus backing up both guard positions. In the past it has worked well when the Clippers has a player like him who could do that and who had a scoring punch.
Point guard: Marko Jaric the Clippers got a preview of him by accident last season and he has a sweet scoring punch. He was a late first round pick who made Miller expendable.
That leaves a bench of Battier who could end up starting. The team loves his defense, but hates his scoring lapses. Williamson who has been the teams do everything kind of player. Hunter who is a throw in player although plays the kind of defense that could keep him on the roster. Alvin Jones who could stay as a backup big man who can play defense and get rebounds. The team wants to bring James back though if it can talk him into a REASONABLE contract rather than what he was asking.
The team has 11+million and the bird rights to posey candyman and james to add to and fill out this roster during FA. This could be a fun team this next season. The ride through the rest of the offseason should be fun for a team that rarely makes trades or big moves. Players fans and management are tired of mediocre basketball in LA by that other team that plays there. Enjoy the ride.
