A little different than looking at they will pick. This article will look at where they are at in the rebuilding processes and how far away they may be from hitting the playoffs.
Upfront: it is a good thing this game doesnt account for players being a head case. When you take that away, Zach Randolph becomes a pretty darn good player. Beyond that Campbell and Stanely are adequate vets, but better suited for backups at this stage.
Wings: Ime makes for a solid all around SF. they could probably upgrade, but he isnt bad. The rest of the wing players are average or less and long in the tooth.
Point guard: Tinsely could develop into a nice pg. The team is deep with other pg who are long in the tooth and average at best at this point.
Picks: The team has its picks for the next three seasons as well as the Bulls pick this season.
Cap: Between Bobby Phills and Kenny Anderson coming off the books the team should have cap money to spend even if it locks up Ime.
Outlook: The team has a couple nice pieces in Ime, Randolph, and Tinsley. It could add a FA and should add a nice rookie. That still probably means a couple more seasons of Lotto Land.
Rockets
Upfront: The team has some very raw big men who are interesting in Okur, Harrington, Swift, and Ely. All of them have their holes, but all have potential as well.
Wings: George is a nice SF and beyond that I hope they draft a shooting guard or make a move because they have a hole there.
Pg: Armstrong and Brown have their strengths but both are at stages in their career any camp could be the point they turn to dust.
Picks: This team has all three future picks
Cap: With Armstrong and Price coming off the books to go with already 6m this team should be able to offer a nice deal to hopefully a guard.
Outlook: This team has loaded some nice pieces at the forward spots and has stocked Okur away for the future. If it builds a back court it could turn it around in a season or two.
The Jazz
Upfront: Bryant and Martin make a nice frontcourt duo although Bryant likes to play for one year deals then walk, so we will see if he stays. Oyedeji has potential to grow into a nice player
Wings: Rodney White could develop, but mostly wings are made up of one dimensional players who need to develop quite a bit.
PG: Tony Parker should develop into a beast, but is raw right now.
Picks: This team has all of its next three picks
Cap: Should have a good 16m to spend in FA
Overall: If the team could keep Bryant in FA, it may be a good scoring guard from being in the playoffs and there are some nice ones in the draft.
Clippers
Upfront: It is amazing how much difference a player makes. The loss of Bryant Reaves was huge. This team needed his scoring punch. Candyman has been lights out. Wright was ok, but he has not been stepping up the way the team would like.
Wings: In Battier, Richardson, and Williamson the team had nice wing play although Battier needs to develop more on the scoring end.
PG: The team has a nice developing pg in Miller and a nice pg set to come over from over seas in Jaric.
Picks: Two of the next three but they have this seasons.
Cap: The team should have some cap space although resigning candyman will take most of it.
Outlook: This team is one season removed from the playoffs and lacking that other scoring punch appeared to make the difference. Jaric can score and that should help. If the team can add another solid player as will Lottoland should be a short stay.
Sonics
Upfront: Dalbert is young but looks like he could develop into a nice defensive minded center. Mcoy is serviceable at pf, but could develop.
Wings: Turkoglu is a very nice young player to build with. Bell could complement at the sg spot.
Pointguard: Davis is a solid scorer from the pg spot but not a great pg.
Picks: All three picks with extra picks to boot.
Cap: The team will have over 10m in cap.
Outlook: Turkoglu is a very nice player to build around. This team has other young players and extra picks. It may not turn it around quick, but it may be set up to be the best team out of the group in three seasons.
Knicks
Upfront: Mimm and Ruffen are two young bigs to build with although each need to develop more.
Wings: Thomas, Spre and Bowen are all decent wings who are starting to show their age. Stackhouse is in his prime and a very nice player.
PG: Eddie Gill is a very nice young pg who just needs to develop more.
Picks: This is the only team among the seven without its pick this season. It does have its next two.
Cap: It should be close to the cap.
Outlook: The team appears to need more beef up front. It may need to trade a wing in order to make that happen. With players getting older and lack of young resources it could be difficult.
