Guys, this is it....
When Brian stepped down from "simming altogether" in SSBLv3, Slash and I decided to not allow the league to die. We took on simming duties (with the help and guidance of Brian aka TheSchmaranz) and assumed full simming duties.
When the SSBL3 file crashed, we started SSBL4. That was a little over a year and a half ago. After a few seasons, stuff came up and Dave, aka Slash, had to step down because of Grad School
so, I became the full-time commish……
Oh so then Brian started a new league….and then another league…..and I was like umm ok whatever….
Long story short, I am burned out. I lost the desire to continue doing this. Things are going on in my life and I don’t feel like being be burdened by remembering to sim before I go out somewhere. Being a good commissioner requires a lot of time and commitment. Simming is a breeze, but doing everything else takes time and effort. For one, creating draft files takes a while. Ask Brian or Joel, or anyone who has been a commish or a draft file creator. Not to mention, making a GOOD draft file, not some shitty one.
Basically, seems that simming and commishing is a chore nowadays, and I’m losing interest in sims altogether to be quite honest.
Some of the GMs I trusted the most told me flat out that they lost interest in my league. I guess I am doing something wrong. I already received some criticism regarding “your file, Ray”, I won’t name names, but I took the criticism respectfully as something I need to work on.
Trying to make SSBL4 a “great” league is like beating a dead horse. For many seasons, we have struggled with inactive GMs and constantly trying to fill teams. New GMs sign up, disappear, and former GMs, especially longtime SSBL GMs, step down. Guys like Brian, Nick, MGcoug, Travo, Pitch, Luca, the list goes on….I must be doing something wrong if these guys are active in other leagues and not in mine. I guess SSBL is just a Brian Thing and not meant to be an IB4 thing. I get that. Brian started it, guys like and trust Brian, so it’s understandable really.
This will be my last season as Commish for this league.
I feel really bad, since there are a handful of GMs that I appreciate for sticking around and making SSBL4 a great league. But you know it and I know it. There are like 8-10 active GMs. Everyone else is a deadbeat GM. “same” and “auto” doesn’t cut it (btw, if you didn’t know by now, “auto” isn’t even allowed”)
I mean I could continue for several more seasons….but why………..i pay $10 a month for thessbl.com domain, and I don’t even feel like doing this anymore…
Maybe I’ll commish again in the future, but it has to be a good active league. Sorry, this is just how I feel, but I don’t feel like simming anymore. It’s just not in the cards.
Sorry to everyone that really made this league a good one.
2014 will be the last season in SSBL4, unelss someone wants to take over simming duties.

I can't blame you one bit. You have done a great job, and have done it about every day. I have ran a league before, and it became a pain, like you said. To make a sim great, I think you have to have 3 to 5 guys working on it pretty much all the time, sharing responsibilities of simming, offseasons, and whatnot, or else people get burnt out. Also, keeping everyones interest high in a sim league is just not going to happen. People get busy at times, and other times have time to get on and stay real active, thats just life. People that have a lot of time want the league to run fast, but others may want it to move a little slower, just no way to make everyone happy. Thank you for all the time you have put into it.
If someone were to take over, I would suggest taking a break, maybe a month from simming, after the season is over, and try to figure out the next step, whether its starting over, using fake players, or just start with a random draft class and mix the older players in. This might give time to find some more GM's that may not want to jump into a team mid season, and refresh GMs that may seem a little burned out.

Ouch. I'm part of the problem not being able to update banks when I say I can. Otherwise, myself and a few others try and make trades, but people are just not interested in trading that much anymore.
It's understandable though. Shit happens, you grow up a little bit to the point that you aren't actually into the league. I can imagine after 16 seasons or so that you've lost a little bit of desire. However unfortunate, it's reality. Best of luck ray. You've done a great job trying to keep it together, and I wish I could have been more reliable.

Yeah you have done an amazing job keeping this league moving along, can't imagine anyone complaining about that at all. I would like to say thank you for stepping up when you did because without that this league wouldn't have become so good.
Kudos and thanks for the sims.

damnn this is sad sad news but understandable.. this has probably been the best league i've ever been in. i wouldn't even be playing fbb if it wasn't for ssbl. but ya, i think theres only round 20 gms committed to the league right now which is not a good number... so definitely understandable. enjoy your time off ray you've been a outstanding commish. in fact, you've done such a good job that you should start up another league if/when you decide to come out of retirement

You've done a great job Ray and you definitely deserve a break from it all. As you and Brandon pointed out, it just doesn't seem like there are more than a few teams interested in doing more than the bare minimum any longer and that usually signals the end. It's no doubt disappointing, but it's been a lot of fun for me personally, and I'll join you in any league you want to do in the future.

Well I can't add anything new to the thread everyone has said everything that needed to be mentioned. Best of luck to you all and hope to be in another sim league with you guys. It's a shame that i failed to deliver Joe Johnson a ring 3 straight years of losing in the eastern conference finals..

Sad day, but understand Ray. I'm honestly surprised you have gone 16 seasons before burning out. Most of my thoughts have been posted by others, but I just wanted to say I was out of sims for a while before I joined SSBL. I believe this is my 10th season and by far this has been the best sim I have been in. The organization, speed of the sims, speed of updating, etc. has been the best I have seen. Well done Ray and good luck with whatever is ahead of you.
As for me, this was the only sim I was in, any others out there?

As everyone else has already been said; Thanks for running the league for so long, Commissioning takes a heavy toll and simming can become a job if not worse a chore over time so for you to have done it for over a year is quite commendable.
I will add though that I will take this as an exit for myself as a GM as well at the end of the season. It's been fun but I will admit my interest has been waning over the last few seasons and to have the league continue via another commissioner/simmer would just seem forced to be honest.

thanks for all who have posted here.
all in all, I really could keep simming, but I just lost the desire to. I have a database of college and HS prospects that could keep me going till maybe 2016-17 ish, but what's the point
