Day 1: Spurs 111 - Kings 93[/b][/u]
Hoping to start the season on a positive note, the San Antonio Spurs had the opportunity to play their opening night game in front of their home fans as they welcomed the Sacramento Kings to town. This was a matchup that went back and forth throughout but the home team was able to take control in the fourth quarter with a 31-16 performance to start their season off with a win. While in a loss, the visiting Kings featured a balanced attack with six players in double figures led by Will Bynum's 21 points to go with 9 assists and 7 rebounds. As for the Spurs, they were led by their star point guard Marcus Williams' double-double of 26 points and 10 assists to go with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Day 3: 76ers 91 - Spurs 83[/b][/u]
Following their opening night win, the team had a day off before they got back on the court as they welcomed the Philadelphia 76ers to town for their annual trip to the Alamo City. While things appeared to be going San Antonio's way early on, this quickly shifted as the visiting 76ers went on a 32-19 second quarter run to seize the lead and never look back on their way to the victory. The Sixers were led by their backcourt combo of Ray Allen and Chris Paul as they combined for 52 points, 17 rebounds, 8 assists, and 7 steals along with Tyrus Thomas (one time Spur) with 10 points and 17 rebounds. As for the Spurs, the team only had four players in double figures and once again was led by Marcus Williams with his 21 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds.

After splitting their first two games at home, the Spurs hit the road for the first time this season and headed off to California to face off against the Los Angeles Clippers. In what was a close matchup, the visiting Spurs used a late surge to take the lead late in the fourth quarter in order to win their first game away from the Alamo City. Each team on the night only had four players in double figures and no player registered more than 20 points on the evening with the Clippers being led by their center Martynas Andriuskevicius with a team high of 18 points and 11 rebounds in 31 minutes of action. As for San Antonio, point guard Marcus Williams continued his red hot start as he recorded another double-double with 19 points and 11 assists in addition to 7 rebounds.

With a win out on the road, the team returned home for three more games and hoped to really gain some momentum during this time. First up on the schedule was a matchup against a divisional opponent, the Grizzlies. This started out as a high scoring game as the Spurs were able to head into the half with a 67-63 lead. However, the home team slowed down in the second half while the visiting Grizzlies kept the pressure on as they were able to come from behind and had the Spurs the loss. With regard to the Grizzlies, they were led by their stars as Danny Granger went for 32 points in just 29 minutes and Rajon Rondo did everything with 30 points, 13 assists, and 8 rebounds. Even though the Spurs had six players in double figures, it was not enough to earn the win as Marcus Williams matched Rajon Rondo's performance by going for 30 points, 16 assists, and 7 rebounds of his own.

Coming off a tough loss to a divisional opponent, the team had a day to rebound before taking the court against the New York Knicks as they made their annual trip to San Antonio. Following a first quarter where the Spurs led by one point, the rest of the game was controlled by the visiting Knicks as they sent the Spurs to another loss during this three-game homestand. In picking up the win, the Knicks used a great deal of balance as they had six players all score between 11 to 19 points with center Spencer Hawes posting the team high of 19 points. With regard to the home team, they only had three players crack double figures with swingman Daequan Cook recording the team high of 25 points in his 34 minutes of game time.

In order to salvage a win during this three game stretch, the Spurs would have to elevate their game as they welcomed one of the toughest teams from the East to town, the Toronto Raptors. In what could be described as a theme early in the season, San Antonio was able to get off to a strong start just to watch the opposing team control the game following the first quarter as the Raptors went on to hand the home team another loss. Toronto used a balanced offensive gameplan with six players registering in double figures as they were led by Tito Maddox's 26 points on an efficient 10-13 shooting from the field. The home team only had four players break into double figures as shooting guard Vassilis Spanoulis led the way with his 18 points and Marcus Williams added 16 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds.

After dropping all three games at home, the Spurs prepared to head out for a tough three game road trip with the first game coming in Minnesota against a very dangerous Timberwolves squad. Even though San Antonio was able to keep the game close throughout, they did not have enough to pick up a much needed win as they continue to drop in the standings. While they were once again led by Marcus Williams with his 25 points and 9 assists, the Spurs had no answer for the dominance of Minnesota's frontcourt play. More specifically, the superstar tandem of Tim Duncan (35 points and 17 rebounds) and Kevin Garnett (30 points and 23 rebounds) controlled the game from start to finish and made sure the Spurs could not get any easy points in the paint all game long.
