Day 41: Clippers 109 - Spurs 78[/b]
Coming off a road win in Philadelphia, the Spurs found themselves having to make the long trip out to Los Angeles to face off against a Clippers team trying to turn things around as well. Although San Antonio was able to keep the game closing in the first half, the second half was a second story as the home team went off for 64 points to pull away for an easy win. In defeat, the Spurs were led by Emeka Okafor as he recorded another double-double going for 23 points and 16 rebounds. however, this game was all about Clipper star Quentin Richardson as he was everywhere on the court. Playing 40 minutes, "Q" went off for 37 points (although it was on 14-37 shooting from the field) to go with 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals, and 9 turnovers.
Day 43: Supersonics 111 - Spurs 71[/b]
Staying out on the road, San Antonio had a much shorter trip to make for their next game as the left Los Angeles and headed north to Seattle to battle the Sonics. Unlike the prior game, this one was done early for the Spurs as they were down 56-32 at the half and it just got worse in the second half. With only three players in double figures, led by Mike Bibby's 21 points, the visiting team had no chance as the Sonics had five players in double figure scoring and three of those players going for double-doubles. In the end, it was Seattle point guard Paccelis Morlende that earned player of the game honors with his 19 points, 14 assists, and 6 rebound effort in addition to setting up the offense all night long.
Day 47: Hornets 98 - Spurs 94[/b]
Following their embarrassing performance in the Emerald City, it might have been a positive that the team had a few days off before its next game. Hoping for better fortune, the Spurs returned home and prepared to battle the Hornets. However, it was not meant to be as the road team came in and controlled the first three quarters and holding off a late Spurs run to collect the victory in the Alamo City. In a game that saw each team feature four players in double figures, the Hornets were led in victory by Hedu Turkoglu's 22 points and 7 rebounds. In the loss, Grant Hill was able to capture player of the game honors with his 28 points and 9 rebounds in 37 minutes of action.
Day 48: Spurs 99 - Clippers 94[/b]
Coming off a tough loss to the Hornets, San Antonio quickly turned their attention to their next opponent as it was a rematch from day 41 against the Clippers. The bad news for the Spurs was that it was another night that saw Quentin Richardson run all over them as he finished with a game high 36 points to go with 9 rebounds and a pair of steals. However, the good news for the home fans was that their team was able to do something they were not unable to do on day 41 and that was pick up the win. While the team only had four players in double figures, the Spurs used a balanced attack to earn the win as Mike Bibby, Emeka Okafor, and Grant Hill all finished with 21 points on the evening.
Day 49: Celtics 124 - Spurs 89[/b]
After getting a bit of redemption against the Clippers, things would became a whole lot more difficult as the team welcomed in the Boston Celtics, the defending champions. While the Spurs were only down by two points at the half, the second half quickly became a time to forget as the Celtics went off for 75 points and may have accomplished a first in league history, having two players on the same team post triple-doubles in one game. More specifically, Jason Kidd went for 24 points, 14 assists, and 11 rebounds while LeBron James went for 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists (and this doesn't even include Allen Iverson going off for 40 points). In the loss, there is not much that can be taken from that but the Spurs were able to have five players score in double-digits, led by Mike Bibby's 25 points.
Day 50: Nuggets 128 - Spurs 101[/b]
After the beating taken at the hands of the Celtics, many questioned how the team would respond as they hit the road for a tough four game stretch starting in the Mile High City. It became evident rather quickly that the answer to this question was that the Spurs would not respond as they got ran out of town by giving up 128 points in the game with 67 of those coming in the first half. Even though Mike Bibby led San Antonio with 30 points and 9 assists, this was not even close to being enough to deal with the Nuggets on this night. In addition to having five players in double figures, on this night Antonio McDyess looked like the top player in the world as he crushed the Spurs defense with 49 points and 20 rebounds in 40 minutes of action.
