Atlanta Hawks quickly hire former Utah JazzGM,
as JCarter resigns due to personal reasons.
After leading the Atlanta Hawks to thier first ever SSBL championship, GM JCarter shocked Atlanta as he told the SSBL league he would be leaving. Many rumors and speculations have been going around about the reason why he chose to resign but it appears that conflict within the franchise might have been the motivation. After the season was done thier was alot of work left to be done as the Hawks had many of their key players hitting the free market. Rumors have it that an internal conflict over resigning free agents like Erick Dampier and Scott Pollard was the main issue. One of Hawks insider states that the Ownership wanted to keep the players but not at the price the players were asking. JCarter had conviced ownership that going for a repeat would be best for the Hawks organization. After hearing his plea they accepted the offers and decided to go for the repeat. Halfway into the season more internal conflict arose as JCarter wanted to add more pieces to the franchise but was shutdown by ownership because they did not want to go over the luxury tax. So after getting the 5th seed in the playoffs, the lack of bench play caused the Hawks to get bounced out in the first round. Speculations say that JCarter could no longer work under those type of conditions and decided to move on.
After looking around for a new GM the Hawks had found thier man in Amanuel. The former Utah Jazz GM is well known for turning around franchises and looks to do the same with the Hawks. He was hired by the Jazz looking to rebuild as they had an aging Malone and Stockton still on the squad. They tried one year to go make the playoffs but were unsuccessful. After that they chose Tyson Chandler as the new franchise player. But the young player did not live up to the hype and set back the franchise 3 years. After hard work, he was able to flip OJ Mayo and bring in Tracy Mcgrady. After that the Utah Jazz did not miss the playoffs but never got passed the Western Conference finals. Amanuel spoke a little with our own Steven A. Smith
What are his expections for the Franchise
Well we dont expect to get a ring without hard work. I expect everyone including my self to work hard and all set our goals on winning a championship. I understand there is alot of work still left to be done and I will do everything in my powers to get them done.
What are his plans for this franchise.
Right now my staff and scouts are looking over some players for the draft. After the draft is done we look to make some moves in order to set ourselves up to make a deep run into the playoffs. Then when free agency comes we look to be aggressive and sign players who we think can help us out this year and in the future.
Does he have trust in ownership?
Of course! Why not? They gave me the keys to this franchise and my goal is to drive them to success. What ever happened in the past is the past, I dont want to get caught up in he said she said talk. I trust them and they trust me. I will do my part to get this franchise back to the promise land, and I hope they do their part when it needs to be.
His over view of the team right now
Well we have a franchise player in Steve Nash already here, so thats a start. Hes the type of player I see being here for a long time. Although hes up their in age I think he still has alot left in the tank. We have some young players who we think we can move forward with in Pietrus, Price, Pierce etc. And we have 2 vetran frontcourt players that we feel comfortable. So we have the pieces to make a run at the playoffs or we can totally go in another direction and rebuild. So it all depands on how things go this offseason.
As it turns out the Hawks do have pieces to either rebuilid or got for the playoffs. It all depands on what is going on in Amanuels head right now. One thing is for sure the Hawks have found thier guy and look forward to moving on. The fans will miss JCarter but they should also understand this is a buisness. Amanuel will do everything he can do to turn his franchise around.
