Day 51: Lakers 96 - Spurs 94[/b]
With four losses in a row the road to the All-Star Break would not get any easier for the Spurs as they traveled out to Los Angeles for the first of two games against a tough Lakers squad. As the game progressed it appeared that the Spurs would find a way to snap their recent losing streak. However, this all changed in the fourth quarter as the Lakers rallied with a 35-18 performance to edge out a tough fought win. Perhaps what made this loss tough for the Spurs was that the home team only had two players in double figures as superstar Dirk Nowitzki posted a game high 27 points with 10 rebounds. In the loss, the Spurs were led by recent acquision Michael Olowokandi's 19 points off the bench in just 16 minutes of action.
Day 54: Lakers 101 - Spurs 94[/b]
Following such a tough loss, the team had a couple days to try to regroup as they headed home to welcome the Lakers to town for a quick rematch. This game started like the matchup from day 51 with San Antonio jumping out to a quick lead. However, after the first quarter, the Lakers took control using a balanced attack with their star power to gain momentum on their way to the win. Just as he did on day 51, Dirk Nowitzki led the way for his team as he registered team highs with 30 points and 14 rebounds before fouling out. In the loss, the home team also had four players in double figures with Vassilis Spanoulis leading his team with 24 points on the night.
Day 56: Nuggets 97 - Spurs 93[/b]
Coming off a pair of losses to one of the top teams in the Western Conference, the Spurs were out on the road again with a stop in the Mile High City for a match up against a divisional opponent in the Denver Nuggets. This was a game that went back and forth with the key coming in the third quarter where the Nuggets were able to grab the lead and hang on for the win. In addition to being a close game, this was a night that saw each team get some big time individual performances as the Nuggets were led by Antonio McDyess' 23 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 blocks. In the loss, the Spurs had five players in double figures but it was the play of Andrew Bynum that drew the most attention as he put up 15 points and 22 rebounds in the defeat.
Day 57: Timberwolves 128 - Spurs 108[/b]
As the losses continue to stack up, the challenges kept on coming as the team returned back to the Alamo City just to see a loaded Timberwolves team come calling. While the home team fought to keep the game close, the visiting Wolves were able to dominate the second half by exploding for 72 points on their way to a comfortable 20 point win. While Minnesota had five players in double figures, the Spurs had no answer for the star tandem of Andrei Kirilenko and Kevin Garnett as they combined for 72 points along with 24 rebounds between them. As for the Spurs, they had four players score at least 10 points with Andrew Bynum going off for another big game in defeat as he led his team with 30 points and 15 rebounds while logging 40 minutes of game time.
Day 59: Spurs 86 - Kings 81[/b]
Hoping to end a disappointing first half of the year with a win, the Spurs headed out west to take on the Sacramento Kings and one time Spurs great Tracy McGrady. In what could be described as a common theme, San Antonio was able to get off to a solid start but unlike many other games were able to hold on to pick up a much needed win heading into the break. While the home team was able to have five players in double figures, they were led by Tracy McGrady's 16 points on the evening. In a much needed win, the visiting Spurs were able to take advantage of Vassilis Spanoulis' ability to score from beyond the arc as he went 6-7 on the night to finish with a game high 28 points with Emeka Okafor and Andrew Bynum both logging double-doubles in the win.
