SSBL - All League 1st team
A look into the recently released SSBL All League 1st Team
Tim Duncan | Kevin Garnett | LeBron James | Joe Johnson | Kobe Bryant
Center: Tim Duncan - Los Angeles Lakers
16.9ppg | 13.5rpg | 3.9bpg
Nominated at the center position, Tim Duncan. In his 9th season in SSBL he lead the LA Lakers to a 50 win season which clinched the Pacific division, the 30 year old was also nominated to the all star game and was named the Defensive player of the Year. Widely regared as the best Center in SSBL, Duncan comfortably led the league in both rebounding and blocked shots this season. It was a contract year for Duncan, who is only 30 years old, but this will probably be his last contract before his retirement. The Lakers have been trying to negotiate a contract extension with Duncan to extend his stay in LA but nothing has been signed and it is widely rumoured that Duncan will test Free Agency to look at all of his options, but many experts around the league expect him to stay in Los Angeles, where he has had 3 great seasons.
Forward: Kevin Garnett - Minnesota Timberwolves
20.1ppg | 11.7pg | 2.3bpg
Nominated at the first forward position, Kevin Garnett. It is very rare that 1 player plays his whole career with one team but Kevin Garnett is Minnesota. He has played all of his 11 years for the Timberwolves, and a couple years back signed a $86,625,000 extension which will see him through until he is 35 years old. The 7 time SSBL All Star has never averaged less than 20ppg a game for a season in his 9 years in SSBL and has career averages of 22.8ppg and 11.7rpg. The Timberwolves have been one of the best teams in the league for years now, this season finishing with the best record in the league with 64 wins but still a Championship ring alludes Garnett, everyone in Minnesota believe that this is their year.
Forward: LeBron James - Boston Celtics
21.8ppg | 8.8rpg | 7.1apg
The 22 year old forward is coming off an amazing season with the Boston Celtics, surrounded by 3 future HOF's, Shaquille O'Neal, Allen Iverson and Jason Kidd, James can play almost any position on the floor and he can do it all. An All Star in all of his 4 seasons in the league, even in his rookie campaign where he also won Rookie of the year, this is also his 2nd All 1st team apperance and he's still only 22. Like Tim Duncan this was a contract year for LeBron James but he wasted no time to sign a contract extension to remain with the Boston Celtics. Winning a championship last season with the Boston Celtics, LeBron and the Celtics will be looking to repeat this season after finishing #1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Guard: Joe Johnson- Portland Trailblazers
29.3ppg | 6.3rpg | 9.9apg
Joe Johnson is no doubt one of the best players in SSBL, drafted 6 years ago with the #1 pick, Johnson has never looked back. Coming into the league most saw Johnson as a shooting guard but at 6'8 Johnson quickly showed what versitile he was, showing he can handle the point guard duties at the SSBL level and has developed into a great point guard. Ever since being drafted Johnson has been the cornerstone of the Trailblazers organisation and has brought them to become one of the best teams in the league. Just like LeBron James, Joe Johnson is a former Rookie of the Year and also a 4 time SSBL All Star and is widely regarded as one of the best scorers in the league. In his 6 seasons in SSBL Johnson is averaging 26.4ppg for his career, including a league leading 29.3ppg this season.
Guard: Kobe Bryant- Toronto Raptors
24.6ppg | 6.5rpg | 10.2apg
Finally to finish the team, the 2006 Most Valuable Player, Kobe Bryant. Bryant is a special player, similar to Joe Johnson he can play either the 2 or 1 guard position equally well but has recently played at the PG position. There isnt much Kobe can't do, finishing the season as the 7th highest scorer, the 3rd highest assist leader and the league leader in steals per game. In his first season with the Toronto Raptors Bryant has formed a great partnership in the backcourt with Dwayne Wade and alongside Yao Ming led the team to an impressive 57 win season, and one of the favourites for the SSBL Championship. This is Kobe Bryant's 4th all league first team apperence in the last 5 seasons, he is an 8 time SSBL All Star and all by the age of 28.
