Day 61: Heat 105 - Spurs 97[/b]
Coming out of the All-Star Break the Spurs made their annual trip to everyone's favorite road trip destination: South Beach. It was apparent early on that the team was more interested in enjoying the party scene rather than playing basketball as they quickly found themselves down to the Heat and dropping the first game of the second half of the season. While San Antonio finished with four players in doube figured, led by Mike Bibby's 26 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds, it was not enough to overcome Miami's balanced offensive attack that featured six players in double figures and led by their point guard, Jameer Nelson, and his 22 points and 8 assists.
Day 62: Clippers 106 - Spurs 83[/b]
After losing to the Heat, the team did not have much time to waste as they boarded the team plane and made the cross-country flight to the west coast where they were set to take on the Los Angeles Clippers. Whether it was the long fight, or the simple fact the team didn't feel like playing, they quickly found themselves down 34-17 at the end of the first quarter. While the team made a second quarter surge, the Clippers asserted control in the second half to finish the game off. The headline from this game was the play of recently acquired Keith Van Horn and the offensive display he put on for his new home fans. Logging 36 minutes of action, the one time University of Utah star dialed it up for 40 points on 15-24 shooting from the field (4-7 from beyond the arc) and also added 9 rebounds as he took San Antonio's Ime Udoka to school all day long.
Day 64: Spurs 101 - 76ers 75[/b]
Following a day off to recover from their recent travel and defeats, San Antonio had the opportunity to take the court in front of their home fans for the first time since the All-Star Break. Their opponent was another team going through some rebuilidng pains, the Philadelphia 76ers. Looking to take advantage of being at home, the Spurs jumped out to a 29-16 lead early and used the energy of their fans to control the game throughout to pick up a much needed victory. While the home team only had four players in double figures, they got big performanced from Mike Bibby who led the team with 30 points and the tandem of Emeka Okafor and Andrew Bynum both posted double-doubles on the evening.
Day 67: Spurs 112 - Rockets 109[/b]
Hoping to gain some momentum from the win against the 76ers, the Spurs enjoyed a couple days off before making the short trip to Houston for a battle against one of their in-state rivals. In addition to being a rivalry game, this was another opportunity for the battle of the Andrew's to take place to determine which center is better. In a closely contested game throughout, the Spurs were able to emerge with a solid road win giving them back-to-back wins for the first time in a while. As for the battle of Bogut vs. Bynum, it could be considered a draw as Houston's Andrew Bogut finished with 21 points and 5 rebounds as San Antonio's Bynum finished with a solid double-double consisting of 18 points and 16 rebounds. However, it was Emeka Okafor that earned player of the game honors with his 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 blocks on the night.
Day 68: Heat 81 - Spurs 75[/b]
With a pair of wins, the question for San Antonio was whether they could establish any type of momentum to keep things moving in the right direction. The team would quickly find out as they returned home to take on the Miami Heat. Looking to repay the Heat for a day 61 defeat, the teams played to a tie at the end of the first half. However, it was the road team that was able to come out and earn the advantage in the second half to send San Antonio to another defeat. In this rather low scoring battle, there was not a player that turned in a dominating performance but Miami used a balanced attack of five players in double figured, led by Jermaine O'Neal's 16 points, to earn the win. In the loss, San Antonio was led by the combo of Emeka Okafor and Andrew Bynum as they combined to go for 38 points and 34 rebounds.
