Day 31: Spurs 107 - Suns 101[/b]
Following a pair of losses to quality teams, the Trailblazers and Raptors, on their home floor, the Spurs looked to get things moving in the right direction as they welcomed the Phoenix Suns to town. This was a game of two distinct halves as the home team was able to take a 14-point lead into the locker room but then had to hold off a surging Suns squad during the second half to pick up the victory. In a battle that saw each team have four players in double figures, the key matchup on the night came at the point guard position as Phoenix guard Chris Duhon captured player of the game honors with a near triple-double featuring 20 points, 14 assists, and 8 rebounds while veteran Mike Bibby led his squad with 27 points and 11 assists. Perhaps the other noteworthy matchup saw Emeka Okafor get the better of the young and talented Dwight Howard on this evening as Okafor helped to control the paint with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks and holding the young Howard to 6 points and 8 rebounds.
Day 35: Spurs 98 - Pacers 87[/b]
After an extended break of three days off, the team from the Alamo City was back on the court in front of their fans as they welcomed the Indiana Pacers to town for their annual trip. However, the Spurs were not friendly guests to their opponents as they quickly took control of the game with a 27-15 first quarter and used the momentum to control the rest of the game and pick up the win. In the loss, the Pacers were led by the tandem of Al Harrington and Ed Cota, both players being actively shopped on the trading block, and young Andray Blatche showing his skills with 12 points and 14 rebounds. However, San Antonio's Andrew Bynum was up to the task as he went for 14 points and 17 rebounds and his fellow post player Emeka Okafor dominated the game as he registered a game high 33 points to go along with his 15 rebounds. Even in the win, the Spurs coaching staff was not pleased as the team continues to struggle with their free throw shooting as they shot just 58.8 percent from the line on this night.
Day 37: Hornets 105 - Spurs 100[/b]
Following yet another day off, the Spurs hit the road for a four game swing that would see them start east and end on the west coast. First up during this road trip was a visit to Charlotte. While things started well for the visiting team, the lost their way and the home team was able to win the decisive fourth quarter to emerge with the win and send their fans home happy. In a physical game that saw a combined 42 fouls, each team pounded the ball into the paint as the duo of Emeka Okafor and Andrew Bynum was able to combine for 45 points and 27 rebounds. Not to be outdone though, Charlotte's combo of Erick Dampier and Eddy Curry was able to offset San Antonio's pair by going for 48 points and 21 rebounds. In the end though, this game may have come down to the free throw shooting as the Hornets were 22-29 from the line compared to San Antonio's 25-37 shooting performance.
Day 40: Spurs 101 - 76ers 89[/b]
Coming off the disappointing defeat, the Spurs headed north for their one trip this year to Philadelphia to battle a young 76ers squad. Looking to take advantage of the situation, San Antonio was able to withstand the early surge and took control of the game in the second quarter and did not allow the home team to regain the momentum or let the crowd back into it. The Spurs were able to do this by relying on perhaps their two best players in Emeka Okafor and Mike Bibby. Providing the inside presence, Okafor was able to go for a game high 29 points on 13-21 shooting from the field with Bibby providing the perimeter game by going for a double-double consisting of 24 points and 10 assists. In the loss, the Sixers saw four players break into double figure scoring with David Lee leading his squad with 21 points on a solid 9-14 shooting performance.
