Boston Celtics: Coming off winning the championship the Celtics are sitting pretty good right now. The Celtics today still have LeBron James and Allen Iverson, the most potent 1-2 punch in the league. They will have to resign Shaq in free agency if they want to contend for another title which they probably will. However they will have seven players looking for a new contract including LeBron. The Celtics need to be careful because they could be looking at luxury tax hell for a couple of years. They are currently looking to see what they can get for Ben Wallace, but look for this team to contend again.
Miami Heat: Being able to land a player like Calderon with the 13th pick in the draft is quite the steal I believe. He will be able to contribute from day one as he can run the offense and stroke it quite easily. The Heat have a lot of talent on the team and will be able to compete again, but they might need to consolidate some talent. Eddie Jones is also up there in age and coming back for another season, Id look to pony him off for some return that can help the team long term. Again the Heat have talent, I just don't see it as championship talent.
New Jersey Nets: Does anyone remember the last time this team made a trade? It seems like they have had the same roster for years now and it's the same roster that has gotten no where. Stephon Marbury is one of the best point guards in the league and they have some nice role players in Wallace, Thomas, Artest, Murphy and Varajao but this team is stuck in neutral for a decade now it seems. They drafted combo guard Louis Williams in the draft who should be a nice boost off the bench in a couple of years, but will only see limited minutes behind the stud that is Marbury. This team needs to make a move or two soon though.
New York Knicks: They made their move last year when they traded for McGrady and made a late playoff push that feel just short. With a good training camp from Amar'e and Paul this team can be a real mover in the standings. One of the rare teams in the league that need to add a shooting guard to it's starting five. They have just under 11 million dollars in cap space and have shown to be willing to take on salary in a trade as long as they get talent. Either way we have a feeling that the Knicks are finally going to be making the playoffs next year and be a team that no one wants to face really.
Orlando Magic: Finally this team will be looking to rebuild after years of being a contender. Their core players are on the wrong side of 30 and they will be on the trading block. Chris Webber and Greg Ostertag will probably fetch some solid picks for contending teams in the making. After that this team is filled with point guards that can also be put on the block. This team has finally run it's course and they have no shame to be entering the rebuilding phase of the franchise. Look for the Magic to be run by Derrick Zimmerman in the future as he looks like a stud in the making.
Philly 76ers: The team overnight blew the entire team up and all of a sudden it is starting to look real nice in Philly. They say it's always sunny in Philadelphia and the sun is coming out. Last year they were able to steal away Curry in a shrewd negotiated deal for the Grizz pick. They added CJ Miles, David Lee and Rudy Gay in the first round last year. Hey lets not forget that stud in the making Kelenna Azubuike was a second round pick, talk about a draft. This year they added Tyrus Thomas who hopes to fill the shotblocking void on this team. They still have a ton of cap space and will probably land a big player or two, watch out for this team.
Washington Wizards: Last year they were able to land a franchise player in Deron Williams who had a sensational rookie year. His partner in crime is Mo Williams who made the seamless transition to shooting guard for the team. Outside of these two players the Wizards are still looking to fill out the rest of the squad. Charlie Villanueva and Travis Outlaw are the two other talented forwards that will need to step their game up in this training camp. In this draft they were able to draft the denfender Ronnie Brewer in the middle of the first. This team has cap space to work with and should look to add someone in the front court that can help, but right now their back court is set for years to come.
