Golden State Warriors: They added the Spanish Chocolate in the draft in Sergio Rodriguez. He should be a fine play maker for them, but will he play this year with Felton ahead of him on the depth chart? Could be a D League stint for him in his future. They have nice young pieces on the team in Andris Biedrins, Raymond Felton and Pavel Podkolzin but they will need more. They have two nice trade chips in Glenn Robinson who is getting up their in age and Robert Traylor coming off a surprising all star nod. This team at the moment is looking up at the playoffs but they still need a lot more help. They have some cap space to throw around in free agency, maybe finally landing that scorer that they need.
Los Angeles Clippers: Usually one of the most quietest teams armed with one of the most quietest GM's in the league the Clippers find themselves without a leader. The Clippers have a lot of free agents that they will need to try and bring back but will their be a GM in place in time? The Clippers landed Kyle Lowry in the draft in case Marko Jaric doesn't come back to the team, so he was nice insurance. So with just six players on the roster and a load of free agents that might need to be overpaid therefore this team needs a GM quickly.
Los Angeles Lakers: The Lakers had to trade a few picks away to assemble the roster that he has. With no first round pick the Lakers have been pretty quiet thus far. However they still claim one of the better starting fives in the league, they will need to find a way to round out the roster. With only Bonner and Wang coming off the bench the Lakers will look to either trade Francis for smaller parts of the puzzle or try and compete with a MLE and LLE additions. The Lakers certainly underperformed last year, but still with that talent that they have you can never count them out.
Phoenix Suns: One of the most quiet teams around the league as well, the Suns have quietly built a team that will be looking to contend this year. Led by Arenas and a supporting cast that is nothing to be sleeping on the Suns can be one of the most improved teams this year. In order for this to happen both Danny Granger and Dwight Howard need to take that next step forward in this training camp. Chris Duhon plays a solid point and Derrick Anderson can still score the ball effectively. If Ha Seung Jin can improve only slightly as well, this team will be a problem. They drafted Daequan Cook who will probably see some time in the D-League.
Portland TrailBlazers: After Theo Ratliff and Desanga Diop decided to test free agency, the Blazers were active on the draft front. The acquired the rights to Hilton Armstrong and Josh Boone as insurance for the departed big men. Training camp will decide which one of these players will see time in the D-League. Also continuing to fill out the roster the acquired the rights to Shannon Brown, a shooting guard who can do a little bit of everything. He will see time this year but will ultimately be a nice D-League prospect. The Blazers will need to try and bring back Ratliff and Diop if they want to try and keep pace with the other elite teams.
Sacramento Kings: Last year the Kings drafted Korolev with the 20th pick and some considered that the steal of the draft. It turns out that it might have been Nate Robinson all along last year after turning in an impressive rookie year. This year they landed Brandon Roy with the 4th overall pick and some are calling this the steal of the draft. Being able to land Roy with the fourth pick is huge for this franchise as it gives them another young piece to go with a collection of already impressive youth. Josh Smith, Nate Robinson, Brandon Roy, Yaroslav Korolev and Sebastian Telfair is a potential loaded to the max. If the Kings find a way to improve their front court, they will be another team to keep a close eye on.
Seattle Supersonics: Led by all world player Kobe Bryant, this team will remain competitive as long as he is around. Last year the Sonics brought in Penny Hardaway to be a potential running mate for him, but they ultimately fell short. Penny's time might be limited since he is declining every year. The Sonics will probably look to bring back Stackhouse, but if they aren't able it wouldn't shock me if they start to retool. The Sonics didn't have any first round picks this year and will only have the MLE and LLE to work with. However with some clever planning the Sonics can use their bird rights to retain Stackhouse and Anderson and add to veteran pieces to compete again.
