Can you believe the ASG is already here? I can't, then again, life has been so busy it's amazing the season is already halfway over. Yep, that's the sign of the midway point - the good ole' All Star Weekend. As you know, the weekend plays host to the 3 Point shootout, the dunk contest, the AWESOME rookie/sophomore game, and of course, the All Star Game itself.
Now, I won't go into details about the rest of the fodder - we're solely focusing on the All Star Game here because, well, it pays out the most if you got somebody playing!
Ok, I'll cut the shit and get to it:
Mr. Stephens' Official ASG Predictions for the Eastern Conference:
Center: It's a toss up!
Both Alonzo Mourning from the Magic and Erick Dampier from the Hawks are having similar 16 ppg 11 rpg and 2 bpg seasons, and I just can't choose! Both are atop the Conference, and both are key pieces in their teams success. If I had to pick, I would choose Dampier, just because he's scoring at a better rate than Zo, with better %'s, but Zo is having a better rebounding and shot blocking year. It's pretty close, who knows?
Power Forward: Amar'e Stoudemire!
While Brand is having a career year, Amar'e is doing it all - including on defense. Averaging 2 steals and a block per, Amar'e is averaging 27 points and 10 rebounds a game, on amazing shooting numbers. This season should be an indication of where Stoudemire's career is headed - electrifying and skyward. But, I guess I wouldn't be surprised if Brand is selected.
Small Forward: Carmelo Anthony
This one is pretty self explanatory since LeBron lost his status as a SF starter, something that could keep him out of the starting lineup altogether! Carmelo has improved since last season, but his numbers are down due to the addition of Ray Allen. However, he has been a more efficient player on the floor and all his percentages are up.
Shooting Guard: Eddie Jones
Eddie Jones is playing great ball in Atlanta, and the Hawks could have 2 starters in the starting lineup. Jones is currently averaging 28 points 5 rebounds 4 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Who could top that in the weak East? Well, nobody.
Point Guard: It's... ANOTHER TOSS UP!
Stephon Marbury has competition if LeBron James is kept at PG. While Starbury does it good, LBJ does it all. Marbury is averaging 22 points and 10 assists with 1.6 steals, while James is averaging 24 points 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 1.8 steals. Again, I Can see both of these guys starting for the East this weekend.
