People like different points of view, and there are always about 5 mock drafts out there so why not have a 2nd in the SSBL?
The following rankings are projected
1. Denver Nuggets
2011-2012 Record: 24-58
Team Needs: SF, PF/C
Given Denver's sharp drop from atop the Conference in 2010-2011, to dead last in just 1 year, Quintero should look to grab the best talent available. Could Harrison Barnes be the star type forward on the perimeter to compliment Blake in the post? Does Denver go big to make up for Derrick Favors huge bust? I think they'll go with the latter, with Blake Griffin moving back to the Center and pick Perry Jones for the future at PF.
Player selected: PF Perry Jones
2. Indiana Pacers
2011-2012 Record: 26-56
Team Needs: PF/C (opposite Biyombo)
Indiana is in a similar situation, with Evans, Ager and Flynn a nice trio of guards to play SG and PG. Many rumors have been flying around about 2yombo wanting to move Rudy Gay, however in the meantime he is a suitable player to fill the role of the teams leading scorer. The biggest problem this team has at the moment is on the defensive end. The team began the defensive trend last season with their selection of Bismack Biyombo, who stepped right in and had an immediate impact in the post. However, with no glaring positional need, Harrison Barnes makes the most sense to bring along to become the teams number one option. Barnes also has the length and ability to guard 3 positions, and could become a top defensive playing in the league.
Player Selected: SF Harrison Barnes
3. Phoenix Suns
2011-2012 Record: 27-55
Team Needs: PG/SG
There are a lot of question marks in Phoenix right now - does Kemba play SG? Does he lead the team at PG? Is Stephenson going to be able to provide the scoring needed to win games, or is he better suited as a bench player? Marquis Teague is arguable the drafts best point guard outside of Myck Kabongo, and with his physicality and versatility, would fit in with an immediate role with the Suns. Defense is Teague's forte, and is also the Suns biggest weakness. Teague will be able to come in and make a huge impact next season, allowing Stephenson to come along slowly off the bench.
Player Selected: PG Marquis Teague
5. LA Lakers
2011-2012 Record: 30-52
Team Needs: PG/PF
The Lakers have struggled to get back on their feet since Brian left them in pretty good shape. DGAF neglected to maintain a playoff team, and thus, Afro took over the mess. The team currently has 6 shooting guards, and just 3 players over 6'10". They need balance, and no sooner than the draft. Daequan Cook played out of position all season last year, and did nothing short of lackluster. The one player that should still be available at the number 4 position is Texas star guard Myck Kabongo. When a team is looking for some stability on the floor, the best place to start is with your future general.
Player Selected: PG Myck Kabongo
5. LA Clippers
2011-2012 Record: 30-52
Team Needs: SG
The Clippers have been shopping Rudy Fernandez for what seems to have been all season, and with nobody on the roster that looks to be able to fill in for the long-term future, LA drafts Austin Rivers, the star guard from Duke at number 5.
Player Selected: SG Austin Rivers
6. Dallas Mavericks
2011-2012 Record: 33-49
Team Needs: SG
Dallas has a ton of great role players on the team right now, but nobody stands out as being the number 1 guy. Look for them to fill that role in the draft, after answering one glaring question - what position do they draft? They arguably have one of the best setups of any team in the lottery, have depth and talent at each position after a flurry of trades during the season. At SG though, while they have 2 promising guards, neither are ready to take the scoring load on their shoulders. Bradley Beal seems like the perfect fit in Dallas, with his combination of scoring, ball-handling, and an improving defensive skillset.
Player Selected: SG Bradley Beal
7. New York Knicks
2011-2012 Record: 33-49
Team Needs: PG/SG
It looks like NY is keen on keeping Steph Curry back where he belongs at the PG position, despite his iffy performance late last season. With Marcus Thornton coming along a little more slowly than it was anticipated, the team needs to bring in a shooter, and most importantly versatility. The moves the team made to the lineup proved that the Knicks don't have many players who can play multiple positions with ease. With the 7th pick, Jordan Hamilton would be an incredible steal for the Knicks.
Player Selected: SF Jordan Hamilton
8. Toronto Raptors
2011-2012 Record: 33-49
Team Needs: SF/PF
The Raptors rebuilt last season, and brought in some fine pieces to start with including future All-Star John Wall at PG. Despite have 2 young players at SF in Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler haven't lived up to even the slightest expectation in their 7 combined years of experience. With star power up top at PG with Wall, who can get into the paint with ease, look for Toronto to go after another guy who can score in a variety of ways.
Player Selected: SF Michael Gilchrist
9. Philadelphia 76ers
2011-2012 Record: 54-28
Team Needs: SG, C
Philly comes in led by a dynamic duo of guards that led the team to a fantastic record, despite not having a quality set of forwards. Look for the team to grab the best forward available at this juncture, which would be Anthony Davis.
Player Selected: PF Anthony Davis
10. Milwaukee Bucks
2011-2012 Record: 34-48
Team Needs: C
Milwaukee, despite not being able to move anyone outside of Korolauv, had a dismal season. A team this talented normally doesn't have the opportunity to draft in such a position. Being able to add a great player in a draft of this depth will be the turning point for this franchise into the future. After dealing Sergei, Milwaukee lacked a post presence both offensively and defensively. Jordan Williams could be groomed into a serviceable center, but the need is right now, and they may look to go big here at number 10.
Player Selected: C Festus Ezeli
11. Chicago Bulls
2011-2012 Record: 38-44
Team Needs: PG
Underachieving team plagued by bad lineups all season, Chicago is very talented as proven by their record last season. They have a future at every position except PG. Even though PG is their weakest position, there isn't enough talent to warrant such a reach for a project player such as J-Mychal Reese, or a mediocre one such as Durant Scott. Instead, it would be wise to find a backup and eventual starter to replace current fringe starter Adam Morrison, and All-Star 2 guard OJ Mayo.
Player Selected: G/F LeBryan Nash
12. Golden State Warriors
2011-2012 Record: 40-42
Team Needs: PF/C
Yao Ming has dropped off very quickly since his glory days, and being a Free Agent, iFlip has an important decision to make regarding Yao's future in Golden State. Robert Swift finally played back at his natural position of Center, leaving a glaring hole at PF where Eddie Griffin and Chris Andersen will most likely leave. Overall the team needs serious scoring both in the post and on the perimeter, as Morlende can not be relied on for the rest of his career to score as much as he did last season. The best player available at either position needed is who will be selected here at 12.
Player Selected: Jared Sullinger
13. Cleveland Cavaliers
2011-2012 Record: 40-42
Team Needs: F
With Vince Carter on his way out, and no great SG prospects available at this point, Cleveland should go after a sure-shot prospect to hopefully grow to become their next star player. Eddy Curry is a good player, but couldn't give the team what it needed in the last 2 seasons. After Curry and Robin Lopez, the Cavs have nothing that stands out in terms of talent, just average talent. They need some help in the post, and the draft is where they'll find it.
Player Selected: PF Terrence Jones
1. PF Perry Jones
2. SF Harrison Barnes
3. PG Marquis Teague
4. PG Myck Kabongo
5. SG Austin Rivers
6. SG Bradley Beal
7. SF Jordan Hamilton
8. SF Michael Gilchrist
9. PF Anthony Davis
10. C Festus Ezeli
11. G/F LeBryan Nash
12. PF Jared Sullinger
13. PF Terrence Jones
